Materials Needed:

• 1 fat quarter neutral fabric• Fabric scraps to yield twelve colorful 5” squares• 1/2 yard back fabric• FairfieldAmericanSpiritSuperiorBlendBatting

Instructions

Cutting

1. From the fat quarter of neutral fabric, cut twelve 5” squares. From the fabric scraps, cut twelve 5” squares.

Half-SquareTriangles

2. Referring to the diagram below, mark the back of all neutral 5” squares with a diagonal line. Place a marked square onto a colorful one, right sides together, aligningrawedges.Stitch1/4”awayfromthemarkedlineonbothsides.Cutalong the drawn line and iron open the seams of both half-square triangles. Repeatwiththeremaining11pairs.Yields24half-squaretriangles.

3. Referring to the diagram below, arrange the half-square triangles into three rows, eight blocks per row.

4.Sewtheblocksintorowsusing1/4”seamallowance.Pressopentheseams.Sewthetoprowtothemiddleone,lininguptheseamsandpinninginplacebeforehand. Press open the seam. Repeat to sew the bottom row below the middle row and press open the seam. Use starch and iron the table runner-top.

5.Bastethetablerunner-topontotheFairfieldAmericanSpiritSuperiorBlendBatting;flipoverandbastethebackfabrictotheotherside.Flipbackover so the table runner-top is facing up and insert safety pins throughout to prevent the layers from shifting. Quilt as desired.

Binding

6.Tocreatethebindingfabric,cutthreestrips2-1/2”xWOF.Referringtothe diagram below, sew the strips together end-to-end at a bias.

Trimandironopenthediagonalseams.Foldthebindingstripinhalflength-wise, wrong sides together, and press. Referring to the diagram below, lay the binding down in the middle of a side of the table runner, lining up the raw edges of the binding with the raw edge of the table runner. Using 3/8” seam allowance, sewthebindingtothetablerunnerleavingthefirst8”unstitched.Stop3/8”away from the end of that side. Backstitch and pull the table runner out from the machine.

Referring to the diagrams below, bring the binding upward in a straight line with the quilt; fold it down to run along the next side. Resume stitching at the topusingthe3/8”seamallowance.Stop3/8”awayfromtheendofthatsideandrepeat the fold at all corners.

Onceyouhave“pivoted”atallcorners,keep sewing until you are a few feet away from the beginning of the binding. Trimthetailofthebindingtooverlapthebeginningbyexactly2-3/4”.Re-ferring to the diagram below, unfold the binding ends and bring them to-gether at a bias, right sides together, ends overlapping by about 1/8”. Draw a diagonal line as indicated; pin in place and sew along the drawn line.

Trimtheexcessbelowtheseamandpress open the seam. Referring to the diagram below, fold the binding back in half and pin in place onto the table runner-top(itshouldbeanexactfit).Finish stitching the binding to the table runner.

Bring the folded edge of the binding up and over to the back of the table run-ner. Pin in place and miter the cor-ners.Stitchinplacebyhandusingadouble-threaded needle.
