    Hello everyone

It was so great to see so many women at our August Birds Eye View last week. Our evenings

speakers were not only informative but were filled with passion, laughter and had worked out their

own ways to make a difference to our city.

    Our guest speakers were

    Jen Crawford

Chair of the Arts Centre of Christchurch Trust Board

Jen is also a Partner Owner at Anderson Lloyd Lawyers and spoke passionately about bringing

people back into the central city and to the Arts Centre that holds such a special place in our

hearts. Jen gave the group an insight into progress regarding the restoration of the Arts Centre,

including the recent re-opening of the fully tenanted Registry. The restoration will cost around $290

million and take between seven and nine years to complete and is the largest heritage restoration

project in the world. Jen and her team have lots of exciting ideas about the future of the Arts Centre

which include a hub for creative entrepreneurs with busy, interactive workshops. More details here:http://www.artscentre.org.nz/rebuild---restore.html I cant wait to see the progress on this

    massive project.

    Michelle MacWilliam

Women in the RebuildMichelle is another woman with passion. Michelle has a business Michelle Mac and provides

business strategy advice and mentoring. Post- earthquake, she joined with Raeleen Rees from Rees

Accounting and Barbara-Lee Dickson of Share Financial Services, to form Women in the Rebuild.

They encourage women to identify and take up new opportunities arising from the rebuild and

empower them to get their bite of the rebuild pie.

She notes that women are often the most vulnerable post natural disaster. They tend to have

multiple roles, and juggle their jobs as well as looking after family members, and often end up with a

reduced income but an increased workload.

Michelle also talked about her work building Chinese and New Zealand relationships and described

China as the future major investor in our city. She suggested that our children should be learning

Mandarin rather than German as they would be worth their weight in gold to astute New Zealand

    business people.

    Phillippa Jacobs

Owner of Mega AdvertisingPhillippa described herself as the sort of person who never held a job for long so she decided to set

up her own business. She said starting up Mega Advertising was tough but it has grown into a

happy, vibrant place to work where they deliver tools to help businesses grow, whether it is logo

design or websites. Mega is an award winning agency and Phillippa is very conscious of giving backto the community. She has spent many years with Scouts, sometimes to the detriment of time spent

in her business and has now joined Zonta and was Club President for two years during the

earthquakes. As part of her community focus Phillippa runs the Z Club for 64 girls at Avonside Girls

High (grown from 28 girls last year). Lots of children in the area have lost homes or their families

have moved so life it not easy for the community. But she has over 60 girls who put their hand up to

help others and have they have chosen Cholmondeley Childrens Home as their special charity this

    year.

Next Birds Eye ViewWe are already organising our next Birds Eye View meeting so will be back in touch when the

speakers are confirmed. Thank you so much for joining me on these evenings I really enjoy thehumour, camaraderie and connections that we all have with each other.

A reminder about netwalkingWe never have enough time to exercise, catch up with our friends and associates and relax over a

cup of coffee so netwalking is the way we can do all three. We meet every Sunday morning at

8.30am at Hagley Park in the car park inside the Armagh Street bridge near the entrance to the

    Botanic Gardens. See you there.
