Yarn – Cotton Yarn in three colors
A [body] B [wings], C [beak]
Crochet Hook H [5.0 mm]
Tiny buttons for eyes
Abbreviations used:
Ch – chain - hdc – Half double crochet – Tr – Treble
dc – double crochet – Sl st – slip stitch
Bird Crochet Appliqué
Body With color A yarn:
Round 1 - Make a loop using the index and middle finger [aka magic circle] and chain 2
[this counts as the first hdc.] Work 7 hdc. 8 hdc
Round 2 – Ch 2, 1 hdc in same stitch, *[2 hdc in each hdc] 18 hdc
Continue working in the same direction without cutting yarn. You will now be making the
bird’s head.
Head
Ch 1, hdc in same stitch, 2 tr in next stitch, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in same stitch, sl st in next
stitch. Fasten off. Weave in tail on the back of the work.

Beak With color C yarn:
With the right side of the work facing you pick up a stitch approximately on the middle of
the head. Work a sl st and chain 1, work 1 sl st in same stitch. Weave in the two tail in the
back. You can use a little amount of glue to hold the tails in place.
Wings
With color B yarn:
Ch 6, work 1 tr on the fourth ch from the hook, 1 dc, 1 hdc. Fasten off . Sew wing to the
bird’s body.
Tail Cut three pieces of yarn measuring 6 inches and using the crochet hook attach on the back
portion of the bird’s body.
Finishing Sew a tiny button for the eye.
