Biotechnology Biotechnology is the branch of biology that that involves the use of living organisms and bioprocesses in engineering, technology , medicine and other fields requiring bio products. Biotechnology also utilizes these products for manufacturing purpose. Biotechnology can also be defines as the application of the technology to modify the biological function of an organism by adding genes from another organism. Tools Used In Biotechnology Lab: These are the tools used in any biotechnology lab Roller Mills with Stainless Steel Rollers Two micromanipulators Three fluorescence-equipped microscopy systems Two BSL-II bio safety cabinets Type I DI water purification systems Biotechnology In Crop Improvement: Biotechnology in crop improvement has two procedures: 1. Transgenesis 2. Molecular marker assisted selection Advantages: The advantage of Transgenesis is that bio safety and Intellectual Property Rights are not major issues. The advantage of Molecular marker assisted selection is Very precise technology; any gene from any organism. Disadvantages: The disadvantage of Transgenesis source of gene is restricted to the gene pool of the species. The disadvantage of molecular marker assisted selection is the issue of bio safety. Improvements To Plant Crop: Genetic modification of plants is achieved by adding a specific gene or genes to a plant, or by knocking out a gene with RNA, to produce a desirable phenotype. BiotechnologyBiotechnology is the branch of biology that that involves the use of living organisms and bioprocesses inengineering, technology, medicineand other fields requiring bio products. Biotechnology also utilizes these products for manufacturing purpose. Biotechnology can also be defines as the application of the technology to modify the biological function of an organism by adding genes from another organism. Transgenesis2. Molecular marker assisted selectionAdvantages: The advantage of Transgenesis is that bio safety and Intellectual Property Rights are not major issues. The advantage of Molecular marker assisted selection is Very precise technology; any gene from any organism.

Disadvantages:

The disadvantage of Transgenesis source of gene is restricted to the gene pool of the species. The disadvantage of molecular marker assisted selection is the issue of bio safety.

Improvements To Plant Crop:Genetic modification of plants is achieved by adding a specific gene or genes to a plant, or by knocking out a gene with RNA, to produce a desirablephenotype. The plants resulting from adding a gene are often referred to as transgenic plants. Genetic modification can produce a plant with the desired trait or traits faster than classical breeding because the majority of the plant's genome is not altered.

Developing a future biotechnology product

Biotechnology is an important tool being used to develop a new generation of products that will improve farmer productivity and meet the worlds growing demand for food, feed, fuel and materials.Thestudy of plants and animals in the cellular and gene levelscan help address our food security problems.
