BIONICS Application of biological methods and

systems found in nature to the study and design of engineering systems and modern technology

Bionics is a term which refers to the flow of concepts from biology to engineering

But in medicine, bionics means the replacement or enhancement of organs or other body parts by mechanical versions.

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT HOW DO

WE READ THE BRAIN??????

Electroencephalography (EEG) EEG is the recording of electrical

activity along the scalp produced by the firing of neurons within the brain.

In clinical contexts, EEG refers to the recording of the brain's spontaneous electrical activity over a short period of time, usually 20–40 minutes, as recorded from multiple electrodes placed on the scalp

NANOBOTS• Nanobots are machines or robots at or close to the microscopic scale of a nanometer (10−9 meters)

•They are now being developed into mechanical cells which have the potential to replace nerves

NEUROBIONICS

Extensive research is being done in this field to find ways to replace nerves

Experiments done by University of Washington have shown how the neural pattern can be understood as well as controlled

Advance technologies being used in the field of BMI (Brain Machine Interfaces) & EEG

Era of simulation

Neural features being used in making real-time & real-life gaming consoles

Virtual Reality brings an era of extreme gaming where actions would be performed by following the impulses given by the brain

Invasive Nature

Non-Invasive Nature

Page 11: Bionics for Nervous System Repair

Non-Invasive Techniques EEG is a vivid example of a non-invasive

technique used for obtaining the neural patterns of the brain

It involves placing of 20 electrodes on the scalp

Electrodes are connected to the amplifier , then signal is digitalized and sent for output after the filtering is complete to elimenate the artificial interfence

Page 12: Bionics for Nervous System Repair

Though non-invasive techniques are being extensively used but it also suffers from some important drawbacks :-- Lot of overlap in electrical activity of the brain -Output is not very sharp in terms of precision

Page 13: Bionics for Nervous System Repair

Invasive BMI

Though they are efficient but are hard to use

It is very difficult to create a firing code that can be used between neurons to convert it into meaningful movement

However, by analyzing the firing rate, a lot of interpretation can be done

Thus, bionics will bring a revolution in the way modern day health care is progressing & more importantly it will lead to new innovations in the field of neural health care with the help of Nanotechnology
