What is a Biome?

• A Biome is a region of Earth that has a particular climate and certain types of plants, animal, and soil organisms known as ecosystem.

The Desert

• The Desert can be defined as the region that gets less than 10 inches of rain per year. Because of this there is very sparse vegetation that is adapted to require very little water.

Where is the Biome located?

• Desert biomes are commonly found at the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn.

• In terms of latitude desert biomes are very common at 30 degrees north and south of the Equator.

What is the average temperature?

• Hot and Dry deserts are found at North American deserts of this type are the Chihuahua, Sonoran, Mojave and Great Basin.

• The average temperature ranges for 20-25° C (68-77F).

• The extreme maximum ranges from 43.5-49° C (110.3- 120.2F).

• American deserts receives almost 28 cm a year.

• No snow

What makes it Unique

• This Biome is considered to have the harshest climate of all the Biomes

• It does not have any bodies of water visible on the suface
