Image Processing: In India image processing is very important, for example, atpresent it is very difficult to distinguish between X-rays obtained for followingdiseases: Pneumonia, Tuberculosis, diffrent Cancer. This position could bemodified and qualitatively improved through image processing with enhancedtechniques available in information technology. This is relatively a new area but has

wide applications in medical image processing.

Drug Designing and Development:Drug Designing and Development along withvarious phases of clinical trials to culminate into drugs could be carried out.

Support System for critical clinical decisions: Usage of IT would providesurgeons, physicians and nurses with specific recommendations for real-timediagnostic and treatment. It covers a wide variety of technologies which range fromsimple alerts and prescribing drug interaction warnings to full clinical pathwaysand protocols. Also, an electronic/digital medical reference Library / encyclopediacould be maintained for references.

Electronic Database System of Health:It could be implemented as an electronic filecabinet for patient data from diversified sources (that eventually integrate text, images, voice, handwritten notes, scans etc.). They are generally viewed as part ofan automated order-entry and patient-tracking system that provides real-timeaccess to patient data, as well as a continuous longitudinal record of their care.

Computerized Medication Environment: Information Technology can be used as

an medication ordering and fulfillment system that includes lab orders, radiologystudies, procedures, discharges, transfers, and referrals.

Image archiving and communication system: Development of technology tocapture and integrate diagnostic and radiological images from various devices (e.g.,X-ray, MRI, Computed tomography scan), collecting data and disseminating to amedical record, a clinical data repository, or other points of healthcare.

Use of Bar-coding: Bar-coding in a healthcare environment uses an optical scannerto electronically capture information encoded on a product. Patents could be

provided with arm bracelets with barcodes that could hold the vital record of thatpatient for doctors, which could be retrieved / assessed by handheld scanners whenneeded. It can be used for matching proper and exact medication (for example, matching drugs to patients by using barcodes on both the medications as well aspatients' arm bracelets). Other applications could also be pursued, such as medicaldevices, lab, and Radiology.

to host the first four Science Conclaves in the years 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012 in series in thecountry.

The scientific programme of the Conclave comprises of interdisciplinary platform & forums ofdiscussions, lectures, experiments, exhibition & video sessions deliberated by the NobelLaureates, eminent scientists & researchers both from India & abroad addressing questionsrelated to basic science research and application-oriented themes. This unique conferenceformat contributes to the generation of new ideas, encourages personal contacts, INSPIRESscientific endeavors over and beyond the norm, and enables the critical examination of

scientific questions from a new point of view. An environment of Gurukul style of learning isadopted, whereby both formal and informal interactions take place so as to instill, counsel andgiven direction towards science education to the young inquisitive minds. To facilitate theinteractions with Nobel Scientists, sessions are divided into two time-zones.

Morning sessions comprises of formal addresses by the Nobel Laureates and their work forwhich they have been awarded highlighting their basic expertise, challenges faced, importantfindings and outcome with its final progress, to give the gathering an insight into the workalready done in the specific areas in terms of research and development. These sessions are not

just confined to their education frontier but beyond it such as the hardships & sacrifices thatthey and their families faced (which could not be acknowledged) thus giving the audience afamilial feeling. Afternoon session comprises of informal get-togethers and discussion withthe Laureates where no limitations are set for the kind of questions to be handled.
