MYPAC PHOTOSYNTHESIS LABSciencies Department: Biology 9th Grade
Topic: Concepts Photosynthesis Light Reactions
Student Name:______________________________________ Grade: ______________ Date:_____________
MYP UNIT QUESTION
Why doesn’t life exist on Mars?
AREA OF INTERACTION
*Enviroments
The student will investigate and understand basic life processes –photosynthesis- and comprehend the importance of the preservation of large photosynthetic hubs like the rain forest.
SPECIFIC MYP OBJECTIVES
Develop experimental and investigative skills to design and carry out scientific investigations and to evaluate evidence to draw a conclusion and develop curiosity, interest and enjoyment towards science and its methods of inquiry.

“Factors Affecting Photosynthesis”
InstructionDesign an experiment using the materials needed related to the title: "Factors Affecting Photosynthesis"These instructions will serve as your lab write.Be sure to complete all items!
Introduction: (About all relevant theories and clearly related them to the lab.)
Research Question: ¿? (Identifies the phenomenon to be studied)
Hypothesis: (What are the expected results?)
VariablesIndependent variable: (Is the one that is changed by the scientist)Dependent variable: (That is measured by you)Controlled variable: (That remain constant)
Materials: (List materials)
Detailed Procedure: (Write a detailed account of how you will set up your experiment)
Notes: (Write down any events that occurred during the lab set up that may affect your results)
Data: (Construct a data chart that contains observations and results)
Conclusion: (Write a conclusion that discusses what your results in your data chart mean. Be sure to address the question, does light require photosynthesis. Also analyze your hypothesis and discuss future experiments that may be done to get a further understanding of the question. )
Bibliography: (Organized according to APA style)
I strongly recommend
Please read the rubric and MYPAC carefully before you begin!!!
Language English!
Form groups of three students!
Do not copy or repeat anything of other students!
And if you have questions, please ask me!

Criterion D Points Possible
Points Earned
Purpose clearly stated, research question and variables 5Materials- complete list present 5Hypothesis- present, makes reasonable prediction based on background knowledge
5
Procedure- Detailed, not missing steps 5Conclusion/Analysis
Did your data support your hypothesis? Detailed discussion about what you learned concerning the
affect of your variable on rate of photosynthesis. Includes specific mention of data. - Lists possible experimental
errors. How would you have done your experiment differently? Why?

WritingReport Lab includes an engaging and relevant research question explaining the importance of the research topic. Writing weaves main ideas and supporting details together into highly engaging and coherent text. Avoids repetition by connecting related ideas with effective transitions and organization. Cites with APA. Includes bibliography. Font times new roman and Arial 12.
