WHAT IS BIM ?According to National BIM Standard-United States™

“A BIM is a digital representation of physical and functionalcharacteristics of a facility. As such it serves as a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its lifecycle from inception onward."

Contrary to popular belief, BIM is not solution, it’s a process.

1. BS 1192: COLLABORATIVE PRODUCTION OF ARCHITECTURAL, ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION. CODE OF PRACTICE

Publication Date: 31 January 2008

BIM STANDARD’S OVERVIEW

Page 7: BIM Standard's and Deployment Plan Overview

• BS 1192 is the British Standard that establishes the methodology for managing the

production, distribution and quality of construction information, including that generated

by CAD systems, using a disciplined process for collaboration and a specified naming

policy. BS 1192 is applicable to all parties involved in the preparation and use of information

throughout the design, construction, operation and deconstruction throughout the project

lifecycle and the supply chain. BS 1192 relies heavily on the

Code of Procedure for the Construction Industry, published by CPIC.

• The principles for information sharing and common modelling are equally applicable to

building and civil projects. BS 1192 is also a guide for developers of software applications

to enable them to support its implementation through the provision of configuration files or

application add-ons.

BIM STANDARD’S OVERVIEW

Page 13: BIM Standard's and Deployment Plan Overview

Prep By : Suhas Jadhal , PMP , ITIL

The National BIM Standard-United States™ (NBIMS-US™) provides consensus based standards through

referencing existing standards, documenting information exchanges and delivering best business practices

for the entire built environment. With open BIM standards we can build detailed models then deliver

accurate products that can be used during commissioning and operation to ensure facility functionality

throughout the life of the facility and to deliver high performance, carbon neutral, and net zero energy

based facilities.

THE NATIONAL BIM STANDARD-UNITED STATES™ (NBIMS-US™) VERSION 2

United States National CAD Standard®

The NCS is a consensus standard incorporating industry publications. It is comprised of interrelated standards,

guidelines and tools for uniformly organizing and presenting facility drawing information. It is the only

comprehensive standard for facility planning, design, construction and operation drawings. It coordinates the

efforts of the entire industry by classifying electronic building design data consistently allowing streamlined

communication among owners and design and construction project teams.

BIM LOD SPECIFICATION

Page 15: BIM Standard's and Deployment Plan Overview

Prep By : Suhas Jadhal , PMP , ITIL

• The Level of Development (LOD) Specification is a reference that enables practitioners in the AEC Industry to

specify and articulate with a high level of clarity the content and reliability of Building Information Models

(BIMs) at various stages in the design and construction process. The LOD Specification utilizes the basic LOD

definitions developed by the AIA for the AIA G202-2013 Building

• Information Modeling Protocol Form 1 and is organized by CSI Uniform at 2010 2 . It defines and illustrates

characteristics of model elements of different building systems at different Levels of Development.

• In 2011 the BIMForum initiated the development of this LOD Specification and formed a working group

comprising contributors from both the design and construction sides of the major disciplines. The working

group first interpreted the AIA’s basic LOD definitions for each building system, and then compiled examples to

illustrate the interpretations.

Few Examples of LOD for better Understanding.

Assumptions for structural framing are included in other modeled elements such as an architectural floor element that contains a layer for assumed structural framing depth; or, schematic structural elements that are not distinguishable by type or material.

Model elements to include:• Floor with approximate dimensions• Approximate supporting framing members• Structural grids defined

BIM DEPLOYMENTS PLAN

Page 24: BIM Standard's and Deployment Plan Overview

Prep By : Suhas Jadhal , PMP , ITIL

WHAT IS BIM DEPLOYMENT PLAN

• BIM Deployment Plan provide a framework that lets owners, architects, engineers

and contractors deploy building information modeling (BIM) technology and best

practices to deliver projects faster and more cost-effectively.

• It also makes suggestions on the roles and responsibilities of each party, the detail

and scope of information to be shared, relevant business processes, and supporting

software.

• The Organizational BIM Plan helps companies implement BIM technologies at the

organizational level, while the Project BIM Plan helps project teams implement BIM

technologies.
