It’s usually counter-cyclical investments that make the most money. The trick is being
liquid enough to pounce with conviction at just the right time. So when a bunch of ultra
high-net-worths pour money into the same investment, it’s a sure sign it’s much more
than a bit of a gamble.
Street Talk can reveal retail billionaire Brett Blundy and
advertising mogul John Singleton have both jumped into
Canadian-listed natural resources play Queen's Road
Capital, as has ASX-listed investment company
Washington H. Soul Pattinson.
The trio join mining magnate Andrew Forrest who
invested via his private vehicle Squadron Resources, and
Hungry Jack's founder Jack Cowin, through his company
Corom Pty Ltd, on the share register.
It is understood Blundy tipped $CA13 million into
Queen's Road, while Singleton picked up a stake worth
$CA5 million, after Aitken Murray Capital Partners
fronted high net worth investors over the last month in a
private funding round that raised $CA84 million.
Cowin and Forrest both invested $CA25 million into the Warren Gilman-chaired
company as part of the capital raising.

Queen's Road is hoping to take advantage of poor investor sentiment in the North
American mining market and will invest its capital into public and private resources
companies in the region, as well as other parts of the globe.
Investments will mainly focus on convertible debt securities and resource projects in
advanced development.
Chairman Gilman – who threw $CA5 million into the funding round – has had a long
association with Hong Kong's richest man Li Ka Shing and the company's head office is
in Hong Kong.
As part of the investment, Cowin's Canadian-based son Michael gained a seat on the
Queen's Road's board alongside Gilman and Don Roberts, who is a non-executive
director of a number of Li Ka Shing related vehicles in Hong Kong.
