The National Football League (NFL) Hall of fame is the highest honor for anyone involved in
professional football including players, coaches and even stretching to analysts. Coach Bill Parcells is
worthy of the honor of being in the NFL Hall of Fame. Bill Parcells was not elected to the Hall of Fame in
his first year of eligibility in 2011. This may be due to the fact that he jumped from teams such as the
New England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys because of disputes between him and owners and
stressful players such as Terrell Owens. He also didnt get in because of the possibility of him coming
back to coach the New Orleans Saints after Sean Paytons One year bountygate suspension. Due to the
success Bill Parcells has had on the field, along with humanitarian contributions and his major impacts
on professional football, he most definitely deserves a spot in the NFL Hall of Fame.
Bill Parcells, also known as The Big Tuna, has had excellent success in the field of pro football
after coaching for twenty-two seasons. For example, his 56.7% winning percentage is remarkably high,
for any coach. According to Pro football reference.com, Bill Parcells had a 172-130-1 regular-season
record, along with an 11-8 post-season record, and an overall record of 183-138-1. He is one of the
most winning coaches in NFL history and this success should land him a spot in the Hall of Fame. His
success also carried over with numerous awards to his teams and him personally. In the same way,
Parcells success earned him and his numerous teams eight divisional championships, three time
conference champions, two with the New York Giants, 1986, 90, and once with the New England
Patriots, 96, and two super bowl championships in 1986 and 1990, with the New York Giants, where he
is in the Giants team ring of honor. Parcells was also named AP coach of the year following his super
bowl championship in 86, and again after turning around the 2-14 New England Patriots to a 10-6
record and being division champions with a playoff appearance in 1994. Having a 183-138-1 overall
record, winning eight time division champions, becoming three time conference champions, winning
two super bowl championships, and being named the AP Coach of the Year twice, are the best

accomplishments he could earn in pro football. All things considered, Parcellss success in the field
cannot be denied, as he is considered one of the best coaches in NFL history.
In addition to Parcellss success in the field, he has had some humanitarian contributions as well.
To begin with, Parcells donated much of his time. According to Christen Gowan, a journalist for the
Saratoga Seen, Bill Parcells was to throw out the first pitch at a charity softball game between the
Saratoga Race Horse Jockeys and the New York State Troopers. The charity was for the Catie Hotch
foundation and the Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund, however; the game was cancelled due to
weather and Parcells couldnt attend the make-up game because of reasons out of his control.
Secondly, Parcells didnt only coach college and pro teams but he also coached little league teams.
According to ESPN he coached a little league team for charity while he was also coaching the Dallas
Cowboys. Bill Parcells didnt have to go out of his way to help others while he was coaching at the
professional level. Parcells did it because he wanted to help others get better. To conclude, Parcells
had humanitarian contributions that he did to help others get better, and he did it for his love of
athletics.
Throughout his career, Parcells has retired four times, but has had a major impact on the
profession. First of all, Parcells helped teams not only as a coach. According to the Associated Press, Bill
was named the Miami Dolphins Executive Vice President of Football Operations where he again, turned
a 1-15 team into Division Champions with an 11-5 record, and hosted a playoff game. Eleven other
coaches that have served under Parcells are currently head coaches at the collegiate or professional
level. Coaches such as Romeo Crennal, super bowl champion Sean Payton, two time super bowl
champion Tom Coughlin, and five time conference champion coach with the Patriots, Bill Bellichick, have
all been started under Parcells, and thrived because of him. Parcells was asked by running back Curtis
Martin, who played for Parcells in New England and the New York Jets, to induct him in the Hall of Fame.

Many players such as Martin, and quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who was under Parcells in New England
and Dallas have had Hall of Fame worthy careers because of him. Also, Parcellss dedication to football
may lead him to coach once again. According to Jay Glazer of NFL Network, Sean Payton, who was
under Parcells in 03-05 in Dallas, has asked his former mentor to take over as interim head coach while
he serves a mandatory one-year suspension. Parcells reputation as a coach wont die any time soon. It
would be very exciting to see The Big Tuna coach again, especially a team like New Orleans, that is
very good, and possibly with Parcells go to be division champs and make a playoff run. In any event, Bill
Parcellss life has revolved around football and he has spent so much time with football, that it would be
barbaric to not see him in the Hall of Fame.
For this purpose, Bill Parcells deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. His success and dedication,
impact on the pro football profession, and humanitarian contributions will put him there. Bill Parcells
has the statistics, awards, and championship rings to get him into the Hall of Fame. Anyone who spends
twenty-two years in one profession must love what they do. Coach Bill Parcells loves football. Coach
Parcells deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Football is his life, from playing in college at the University
of Wichita, to playing for the Detroit Lions, to coaching college football for fourteen years, coaching at
the professional level for twenty-two years, managing the Miami Dolphins for four years, and a
possibility of coaching again.
