International Composition Masterclass and Seminar with Pierluigi Billone and

Ensemble Interface

16/17/18 July 2014, Flix - Tortosa (Catalonia)

This three-day masterclass is open to composers of all ages and nationalities. 10 students will be

selected as full participants.

The International Composition Masterclass and Workshop with Pierluigi Billone and Ensemble

Interface (Germany) includes the following:

- each of the 10 selected students will receive a 90-minute individual class with Pierluigi Billone in Flix.

Each student will have the opportunity to present his/her work.

- among these 10 works, 4 works will be selected for performance. Ensemble Interface will perform the

selected works in two concerts (Conservatori de Tortosa, July 17; Festival Sirga 2014 Flix, July 18).

Audio and video recording of the performances will be available.

- each full participant will have the possibility to attend the seminar held by Pierluigi Billone about his

music at the Conservatori de Tortosa (the seminar is made possible thanks to “Universitat Rovira i Virgili

- Campus Terres de l'Ebre” and “Conservatori de Tortosa”).

- likewise, each student will enjoy free entrance to all SIRGA Festival concerts, featuring artists such as

Ensemble Interface, Pina Napolitano, Marco Fusi (Pierluigi Billone's music), Alejandro Castillo and

Luis Fernàndez Castelló (Pierluigi Billone's music), and much more concerts of free jazz and

electroacoustic music !

There are two categories of students, with the corresponding application fees:

- FULL PARTICIPANTS (10 students): 100 €

- AUDITORS (until max. availability): 30 €

The festival organization will provide full participants and auditors with all the information about the

events.

Accommodation in Flix: The festival organization will facilitate accommodation at a very affordable

price thanks to an agreement with the hotels in the area.

How to apply (Full participants):

Application as full participant (10 places available) is only possible via email, by sending a message

to sirga.festival.flix@gmail.com, enclosing the following documents via WETRANSFER

(www.wetransfer.com) by May 15, 2014 (11:59 pm):

- Application form (see below).

- Copy of ID card (.pdf).

- Two scores (.pdf) - Scores for quintet: flutes (1 performer: piccolo, C flute, alto flute, bass flute), clarinet

(1 performer: E flat clarinet - A clarinet – B clarinet – bass clarinet), violin, cello, piano. Each piece should

preferably use no more than 2 kinds of flute and 2 kinds of clarinet.

- Recordings of the submitted scores in mp3 format (not mandatory).

- Personal CV.

The selection will be personally led by Pierluigi Billone. All applicants will be informed about the

results by email. All applicants selected as full participants must pay their fee (see above) within 10 days

from the selection announcement by bank transfer. Payment description: SIRGA 2014 - International

Composition Masterclass.

Those who have not been selected as full participants can apply as auditors, if they wish,

paying the corresponding fee by the same deadline.

How to apply (Auditors):

To apply as auditors, students must send the following documents, via email only

(sirga.festival.flix@gmail.com), by May 15, 2014 (11:59 pm):

- Application form (see below).

- Copy of ID card.

All applicants selected as auditors must pay their fee within 10 days from the selection

announcement. Payment description: SIRGA 2014 - International Composition Masterclass.

All students will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the masterclass.

The organization cannot assume any responsibility for any problem or delay caused by unforeseen

events of technical, informatic or natural origin which could prevent the upload, the receiving and the

evaluation of materials submitted by applicants.

INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY MUSIC FESTIVAL AND LOCAL HERITAGE

Flix (Catalonia)

SIRGA is an international music festival focused on sound experimentation and new musical creation that takes place in Flix (Catalonia) in July, and encourages the dialogue among historical and cultural heritage, landscape and artistic creation.

SIRGA is based on three goals:

- To provide “Terres de l'Ebre” (South of Catalonia) with an international festival that stimulates our country through music.

- To spread out our creators and performers talent, within and beyond the Catalan borders.

- To encourage the creation of sound and music from around the world as an engine of progress and value for the individual and the society.

In order to achieve these goals, SIRGA becomes a cultural tool where ongoing dialogue between local and universal crystallize in a program focused on the knowledge of our creative heritage, in its diffusion, the exploration of national and contemporary creation and the permanent exchange of new ideas with artists from around the world.

Contemporary instrumental music, free-jazz, electro and experimental music become the basis for a week of learning and performing, articulated in different emblematic corners and landscapes in the town of Flix.
