Motorcycle Mayhem Approximately 60 bikers and their machines descended on our little school on Friday 6

th March. The children were in awe as they revved into the playground.

Riders came from all over the state to participate in the rally. Following a wel-come by Ella, club president Graham gave a short talk about the club. After eat-ing lunch, children, staff and bikers mingled and chatted. They were very im-pressed with the school and its history. To round it all off Ella and Seth were asked to select their favourite motorcycle and present a cap to the winning biker. Seth made the announcement and thanked the visitors for coming. All children enjoyed a popper and popcorn from the club for afternoon tea. Thank you to Nikki, Joyce, Wes and Kate who worked hard in very trying condi-tions to feed everyone. Picture this – 2 hours before our visitors arrived power and water was cut to the canteen and bubblers! Electricians and plumbers were on site really quickly but it was a major break which was only repaired the follow-ing week. It made for fun times washing up and ensuring the children had drink-ing water. A great effort. Throughout all this the children were just wonderful. With staff in and out of the room trying to isolate the problem and attend to tradesmen, the children just worked on. When you’re next in the school check out their motorcycle collages and motorbike history time lines.

COVID19 Thank you to our school community for supporting us in encouraging students to wash their hands regularly and stay at home if they are showing signs of cold or flu. Please read the enclosed letter to see the current impacts to our school and students. As you will appreciate, our response to this unfolding situation may change rapidly. I will inform you immediately of any changes that will affect your child. The Department of Education and our staff are currently planning for a range of possible outcomes. Please be assured the health of our children and community is our first priority. If you have hand sanitizer or soap to spare please consider donating it to your child’s classroom.

Kitchen Garden It was great to have our kitchen and canteen operating again last week. The building works are almost complete. It has been a challenging time, particularly for Nikki and Sarah. I know some students and families were disappointed by the changes to the garden. However, the work was necessary and the result is a safer place of shelter for our students and staff in the event of a bushfire emer-gency. The addition of a brand new stove, water tank, garden paths, shutters on the windows and pebbles to replace bark chips have been a considerable invest-ment and we thank ‘The Team from Assets’ for their work and support. The gar-den will look great once the work is finished and Nikki, the students and volun-teers work their magic.

Bikers Day

Thank you to Mrs Hobbs, Miss Breese, Nikki, Joyce and ???Seth’s Dad for host-ing over 70 people for the Vintage bikes last week. It was a huge event and was enjoyed by all.

Library News Kids Lit Quiz Our school has been invited to enter a team in the annual Kids’ Lit Quiz run across the state. It is a fun competition where teams of 4 work together to answer a range of literature questions. Heats were to be conducted in Taree later in the term. However this can no longer happen. It is hoped arrangements can be made to hold it via video link. The winning team will win a subsidy to assist them to compete in the National Fi-nal. Over the last two days Upper Division have been involved in this trivia style quiz answering 50 literary questions to ascertain their interest, knowledge and expertise for this style of competi-tion.

Premiers Reading Challenge Students have begun recording the books they are reading on their stu-dent log. I will upload lists weekly, so it is easy to keep track of their read-ing. Remember they can also list books they read at home. Sue (Teacher Librarian)

Members of The Coomba Sustainable Living group joined the Upper Division class on Friday for a delicious meal prepared by the students and tour of our school. Students talked to the members about the various activities offered

through our kitchen garden. Members of the group were very impressed with the program and the skills and knowledge of the students.

School Counsellor We have been fortunate to have Ms Kylie McIntosh join us this term to work as our school counsellor. We are entitled to two days each term. Her time with us is appreciated. She will assess some students and possibly work with groups of Stage 3 students to discuss transition to High School. She will not have time for individual time with students and all assessments require parental permission.
