Bigfoot Bicycle Club is experiencing anunprecedented renaissance. Ive beeninvolved with the club since 2003 and Ivenever seen a bigger membership roster. Weowe this largely to Jim Robbins and TomPhillips efforts in organizing the BananaSlug Series rides. While it takes a dedicatedcore of people willing to organize eventslike this, theyre not events without

participants. It makes the effort allworthwhile. Thank you all for helping usgrow into a club we can be proud of. WhileIm fairly certain were done with theBanana Slug rides for this year, they will beback in 2011. Weve learned some lessonsalong the way so next year theyll be evenbetter if you can imagine that.Id also like to extend my thanks to BigfootBicycle Clubs board of directors. I dontthink weve ever had a more dedicated andactive board, at least not since Ive been amember. The Board of Directors meet thefirst Monday of every month and allmembers are encouraged to join us to bringtheir ideas to the table.Im looking forward to a fun summer ofriding and trail work events. I hope you get achance to join us.Again, thank you all!

    Sincerely, Tim Daniels

Riders Jeff Hales and JJ Katri enjoy BSseries #4 ride at Tish Tang Ridge.Banana Slug Bike Series is a Huge

    Success.

In all the years Ive been cycling inHumboldt, I have yet to see an event matchthe buzz that the Banana Slug has generated.

This monthly list of various training rideshas gotten more people together to ride theirbikes than I can remember. This is thanks tothe work of Jim Robbins, our event director. He put this event together and pulled it offwith style. For more information on the BSseries check out Jims blog atnorthcoastbikerides.blogspot.com or readEmmas article about the great time she hadat Dyerville (BS #2 ride) atwww.teamlcb.org/. At this time BS # 5 on

May 22nd is cancelled due to a conflict withthe 12 hours of Weaverville Mountain BikeRace. BS #5 may be rescheduled for a laterdate. Keep checking Jims blog for the mostcurrent updates on all Banana Sluginformation.

Bigfoot Board of Directors adopts the

    Banana Slug Series

Prior to the BS #3 ride in Loleta the Boardadopted the Banana Slug Bike Ride series. The Board then had to make a tough

decision. Our current insurance provider isMcKay. With McKay people whoparticipate in our events are covered byinsurance only if they are members and havesigned a waiver form. We did not wish todiscourage riders to ride by chargingmembership dues but at the same time wefelt we would be behaving irresponsibly tolet people ride with out being properlyinsured. We regret having to ask riders tobecome members to Bigfoot to finish the

Banana Slug series, but we felt it was thebest thing to do for all parties involved. Forthe future, the Club is investigatinginsurance providers that will cover riders inour events without forcing them to becomemembers. But for now think of it thiswayFor $15 you got a club membershipare eligible to do 6 ridesare insured onthose events for 5K property damage 25Kmedical 1 million liability and had a greattime. Money well spent I would say!Trails Days Update

The idea is to build a segment of trail from

the main road to the loop, which will makethe loop a lollipop. This is great because itwill add 5 miles of singletrack, cut off somedriving time to the trail head, and IMBAwill be there.Community Forest in Arcata--- June 26

    Power Lines Trail Work

Big things are on board for Arcata. TheClub has gotten permission from the City todo afternoon trail work. Look for times anddates when we dry out from these late spring

rains. Currently, the city of Arcata is tryingto purchase a chunk of property betweenBayside and Arcata. They are 70K short ofthe mark but efforts are being made to raisethis money to make the property purchasehappen. Why is this important? The plan isto expand the Community Forest trailnetwork all the way to Bayside. Soundgood, look for fund raisers soon!Lacks Creek BLM

Right now the final environmental impactstudies are being completed. The last 10miles of trail will then be flagged andground will be broken on 30 new miles oftrail. That day is closer than you think andLacks Creek is only 30 minutes drive fromArcata. We will keep you in the loop.Tish Tang Ridge Six Rivers Forest

There is always something going on outthere. Tom Phillips is the go to guy on thatproject. At this time I have no set dates.

    Whats in a Club Name?

That is the question the Club has beenmulling over for some time now. The

thought is to create a new name for ourClub. There are several reasons the Boardand other members feel strongly aboutchanging our Club name. Many feel that aClub name should represent the geographicarea from which it exists. This name shouldalso best represent the direction of our Clubas a hole. And although Team Bigfoot andBigfoot Bicycle Club have no affiliationswhat so ever, many folks think that they areone and the same. This is not the case. As

cyclists and a Club, we support Vic Armejoand the many cycling events he puts onunder his Team Bigfoot name but themessage being sent to the public does bothgroups a disservice. This change is notgoing to be made over night but it is goingto happen. We have been carefully seekinginput from a variety of sources. Severalsurveys have been done and that data hasgiven us information that we plan to use tocome up with the best product. The list of

possible new Club names is below. If youhave a better name to add please let usknow. We appreciate and encourage yourinput!
