She is very dedicated employee making sure all the T’s are crossed on trip packets and that we get our paychecks every Friday. In her free time she enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboy’s, spoiling her nieces and nephews, reading, fishing and racing. Brooke also likes eating out at her favorite Mexican restaurant La Casita while tipping back a few margaritas. She also enjoys gardening and canning during the summer and enjoys her canning all year when she cooks. Some of Brooke’s fondest memories are going to the family cabin with her grandparents. She would love one day to see the ocean and to travel to Italy. Her favorite vacations so far have been to the Omaha Zoo in Omaha, NE and to Vegas. Brooke is self-described as loyal, compassionate, and a good listener. She would like for everyone to have compassion in their life, because you never know what a person has gone through. In this last year she has learned a valuable lesson to accept others faults because it makes us who we are. We would like to thank Brooke for all that she does for Doug Bradley, and hope you are with us many years to come.

Health Insurance Renewal…. We have received the renewal rates for BCBS for this year and are happy to see only a minimal 1.2% increase to employee only health insurance cost on the lower deductible ($1500/3000) health plan and a .2 % increase on the HDHP. I have included the rates and shown another line, this line is gray, indicating what last years rates were. If you have any kind of dependent coverage you can see some rates even went down. As with every year we are exploring every option and will let you know when and if there is more to report. If you are not currently on our plan and would like plan details please contact Brooke in the Salina Office at ext. 102.

Your Per Diem Questions answered

Rules Change on Driver Meal Expenses – The federal tax reform package that passed Congress December 20 changes the rules for some truck drivers on the expenses they incur for meals and incidentals while they’re away from home on travel. Employee truck drivers whose carrier does not pay them a per diem allowance will no longer be able to take the costs of meals and incidentals as an itemized deduction, as they have in the past. Although this will be hard on some drivers, it may not make a difference to many, since the new tax law also doubles the standard deduction for taxpayers, so that fewer drivers will be itemizing at all. This change is effective now, for 2018 taxes. However, DBTI is again looking into implementing per diem pay Note that owner-operators will still be able to deduct their costs for meals and incidentals, just as they have in the past, since owner-operators are in business for themselves, and those costs are deductible business expenses. (KMCA Dispatch-Feb.2018 issue) Proposed ND & SD load restriction maps posted in terminals and on Website. Spring load restriction maps for SD and ND are posted in each of the offices. They will also be posted with a copy of this newsletter on our website for you to be able to view and use.

Way to go Jerry!!!! I just wanted to take some time to recognize Jerry Bogart & the extra effort he put in to this pick up. Jerry called Hannah the other night & asked if we would like for him to label what the other hired out drivers picked up so that the paperwork would be correct ahead of time & Hannah told him we would appreciate that. He just sent in his paperwork & followed through with labeling each unit that the drivers picked up, including the ones he picked up as well. We have never once had a complaint about him & if we ever have any issue with paperwork or ask for him to do something different, he always follows through with what we ask. Anyways, just thought I would send some positive feedback over & let you know we REALLY appreciate everything that Jerry does! Thank you,

Jessica R. Urban Data Entry Clerk 1

Check paperwork Last week we again learned the importance of ALWAYS CHECKING YOUR PAPERWORK. Due to some confusion on behalf of the shipper, we had a driver haul a load more than 500 miles the wrong direction. Remember, as a driver you are the last line of defense to make sure the right product is going to the right places. PLEASE, always check your paperwork.
