Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 6:00 PM Independence Elementary West Gym Dear Parents/Guardians: 5 th grade students have been working hard learning songs, choreography, speaking parts, and instrument parts for the upcoming 5 th grade musical on November 19. The 6:00 PM performance will include students from the following 5 th grade classrooms: Christoffer, Johnson, Olson, Rajkowski, and Skoog. Preparation for the musical has taken the majority of music class time during the last two months; thus, all students are expected to attend the evening performance. When should students arrive at school on November 19? Students should be in the cafeteria at Independence Elementary, ready to perform, at 5:45 PM on performance night. Please wait with your child until 5:45 PM, as there will not be supervision in the cafeteria until that time. Classroom teachers will meet their students at 5:45 PM in the cafeteria and stay with them until the show begins. What should students wear to the performance? Students should dress up for this performance. The celebrities in Lights, Camera, Action mostly come from a time period referred to as Hollywood’s Golden Age, which took place in the middle of the 1900s. Celebrities during this time period, as well as regular people, generally dressed up more and wore more formal clothes than most people do today. A student who is depicting a particular celebrity should try to wear something that is inspired by what that celebrity looked like in real life. (Pictures of the celebrities featured in Lights, Camera, Action are found on the back of this page.) Other students can either choose to dress up like a famous movie star/character or can wear clothes that you would wear for a formal event, like a concert or movie premiere. Here are some ideas about what to wear to the performance: Boys: Dress shirt, dress pants, and tie (optional ) or black top and pants Girls: Dress or solid top with dress pants/skirt or black top and pants/skirt Please avoid wearing clothing with large logos or words. Please do not stress about creating the perfect costume. We hope that you can use clothing that you already own.
