Transcript of Big history
Peoples and EmpiresConquering seems to
be the reoccurring theme in Peoples and Empires. First with the Greeks and the Romans, and now with the United States, whether to conquer land or to spread democracy.
Peoples and EmpiresThe creation of race
through the advances and devastation of empires. The holocaust as an example of trying to wipe out the Jews as an entire race.
Guns, Germs, and SteelSuppression seems
to be a major theme of the two episode, not only by the Europeans, but also by the diseases they carried with them.
Guns, Germs, and SteelAdvancement due to
global positioning was another theme. Colonies that were located on the North African latitude lines had better crops and more advantage over other colonies that weren’t.
Guns, Germs, and SteelDomestication was
the last theme. Without domesticating animals, the Europeans would not be as advance, nor would disease have been spread around the world the way it was.
Origins of SlaveryExploitation of the
slave and the ground they used for cultivation showed up as a theme in the Origins of Slavery.
