BOND INVESTMENT GROUP
INFORMATION BOOKLET
BOND INVESTMENT GROUP
Bond Investment Group (BIG) is a voluntary and wholly
student-operated association that was founded in early 2008.
The Group was formed for the purpose of educating students
about the benefits of investing, as well as promoting financial
awareness and sustainability within the Bond student body.
The Group’s immediate vision is to provide Bond University
students with a thorough introduction to investment and wealth
management, whilst also providing exposure to some of
Australia’s most influential businesspeople.
BIG is one of Bond University’s most vibrant and exciting
student-led initiatives, and plans to further expand its
membership base and corporate relationships in 2010. With its
short yet successful history in mind, the BIG team is eager to
build upon its past successes and create new opportunities in
order to continue to strengthen the relationship between Bond
students and industry professionals.

OTHER CURRENT ACTIVITES
BIG also runs the following events and programmes for Bond
University students:
Beginners’ Series
The Beginners’ Series aims to teach students the fundamentals of
investing in different asset classes by utilising a tutorial-style
seminar and discussion of investment ideas. The Series runs
fortnightly, with six seminars per semester covering the following
topics:
Money management
Equities and the stock market
Fixed-income securities
Fundamentals of property investment
Retirement and wealth protection
Review and reflection
After each tutorial the information taught is made available to
students through the BIG website, and students are able to apply
and extend their knowledge in their own time.
Virtual Stocks
BIG has recently developed a proprietary online trading game
called Virtual Stocks. It is currently being utilised as both a
competition and an educational tool used in conjunction with the
Beginners’ Series.
The game operates in the same manner as existing trading games
run by companies such as the ASX and J.P. Morgan, however
allows BIG the added flexibility of running the competition every
academic semester.

OTHER CURRENT ACTIVITES
Speaker Series
The Speaker Series is run two to three times a semester, and
allows students to hear from industry experts on topics relevant to
investment and different industry sectors.
The Series focuses on professional-student interaction and
provides an informative setting in which students can listen to and
learn from industry professionals. Here, there is more of a focus
on growing investment intelligence by introducing more informed
perspectives from professionals with experience in their
respective industries.
At the end of each seminar, students have the opportunity to meet
with the speaker and discuss not only what was covered in the
seminar, but also other investment ideas, information and goals.
Student-Managed Fund
BIG’s primary goal in the near future is to work with the Business
Faculty in establishing a Student Managed Fund where students
would have the opportunity to apply their investment skills using
real-time, real world investment principles.
The Fund, when established, will allow students to invest real
capital in a supervised environment, with the ultimate aim of
establishing an endowment that will provide support to future
students.

the Australian business community.
EDUCATION: A LONGLIFE COMMITMENT
The link between education and industry is well documented
and long standing. BIG provides a medium through which the
corporate community can continue to show support for
education and foster links with universities and their students.
Involvement with the Bond Investment Group also ensures that
the next generation has that same opportunity to receive quality
education in investment and wealth management techniques.
