Rig Financing Scenarios
• Newco Drilling Contractor #1Private investor with track record and deep pockets starts new company, with own money, raises more money, buys rigs and lists on a stock exchange (typically Norwegian and listed on Oslo stock exchange)
• Newco Drilling Contractor #2Private individual / investor with no track record raises deposit (say $20M) and signs contract with rig builder.
– Rig builder (typically Chinese and government owned) will fund most of rest and take payment once rig on contract
– Vendors will provide funding (mix of own cash and government backed funds, (e.g. UKEF)
– Ultimate aim of newco is to sell out to larger company
• Operator FundedOperator signs 5/10 yr drilling contract to enable drilling contractor to fund / buy a new rig
