WHAT IS BIG DATA? Big Data is the buzzword that has gained more and more interest from not only the academic community, but from the general public as well. The ability to understand and master the latest knowledge and technologies related to Big Data can produce significant research, and competitive information systems of high quality. This seminar is held with the intention to improve the knowledge and understanding big data and its importance to the community. He was formerly the deputy director of the Welsh eScience Centre at Cardiff University. He currently participates as a steering committee member of Cardiff University's "Data Innovation Institute", focusing on multidisciplinary projects involving various aspects of data analysis and management. He holds a PhD in "Neural Computing and Parallel Architectures" from Imperial College (University of London, UK). Dr. Ho Chin Kuan A professor in the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, Multimedia University (MMU), Malaysia. He's a member of Tele- kom Malaysia's Business Analytic Team. He also sits on the Malaysian National Big Data Analytics Task Force, a committee tasked for driving the National Big Data Agenda. Dr. Ho received the B Sc. (Hons) in Computer Science with Electronics Engineering from University College Lon- don UK. Subsequently, he went on to complete the MSc (IT) and PhD degrees from Multimedia University, Malaysia. Dr. Ong Hong Hoe Hong Ong is a Senior Director at MIMOS Berhad. His current role at MIMOS is to provide technology leadership in defin- ing and developing lines of research in Distributed and High-Performance computing, to establish R&D collaboration with univer- sities and Multi-National Corporation, and to transform research products into commercializable products. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Uni- versity of Portsmouth, UK in 2004, and his B.S and M.S in Computer Science from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, in 1996 and 1999 respectively. Dr. Omer Rana

A professor of Performance Engineering at Cardiff

School of Computer Science & Informat-

ics. He was formerly the deputy director

Dr. Dzaharuddin Mansor

The National Technology Officer for Mi-

crosoft Malaysia. Dr Dzahar received and

Honors Degree in Computer Systems

Engineering from Monash University,

Australia in 1985, and completed his PhD

in Computer Science at La Trobe Univer-

sity, Austalia in 1988. Dr. Dazahar joins Microsoft in

2005 and has more than 30 years proffesional experi-

ence in ICT and telecommunications in senior leader-

ship, engineering, research as well as academic roles.

Dr. Etikkan Karupiah

The General Manager (Computational

Sciences) at Telekom Malaysia. Besides

having had many years of experience

working at large and reputable compa-

nies such as MIMOS, Panasonic, Intel

Microelectronics, he has also lectured at MMU and

conducted research at USM and NTTMSC. His expertise

spans many areas including in technical, design and

architecture of embedded and distributed software

engineering, project leadership, and product R&D .

Jaden Teo

A certified RapidMiner Analyst graduated

from Wichita State University (USA) in

2010, with a Bachelor's Degree in Aero-

space Engineering. Other research efforts

include the investigation of the aerody-

namic behaviors of an automobile and the global De-

sign Challenge, a collaborate air frame design effort

sponsored by spirit Aero systems. Jaden began his

career as an Application Engineer in Tec source sys-

tems, the SEA sole distributor of MATLAB, as a consult-

ant he focused on technical computing areas such as

data analytics, artificial intelligence, image processing,

application deployment, etc
