THE STORY

6 years old. Many colourful balloons. Pop! Pop! Oops Many friends are here. Alice, Jaya and Ah Meng are here too. Alice plays with the hat. Jaya blows the whistle. Ah Meng plays with the poppers. Many presents for Mimi and Anis. bigsmall. Lets sing together. Wow! A birthday cake. 1,2,3 lets blow the candles. Ooo 3 more candles. Lets blow them 4,5,6 all blown out. Happy Birthday Mimi and Anis.

PRE-READING

INTRODUCE THE STORY Talk about the books cover and its title

At the end of the slot, the teachers will be able to: Describe the book cover by using simple, compound and complex sentences Discuss the title and author/illustrator

WHILE READING

Mentor reads the story aloud to the teachers using appropriate inflection and tone. Mentor encourages the teachers by asking them some WH-questions Mentor selects some of the teachers to pronounce;i. A wordii. A phraseiii. A sentence

Mentor asks some of the teachers to describe the pictures Mentor selects some interesting new words and asks them to elaborate it

Read every words with correct pronunciation Read all the sentences with correct intonation and word stress Answer all the WH-questions correctly

Describe the pictures with their own words Examples: Lantern, shaking hand, smiling Make a full sentences based on the given word

Using the Book Cover(20 minutes)

Step 1Teacher reads the title.

Step 2

Teacher talks about the cover.

a) How many girls do you see? Eg. 2 girls , HOT Answers (2 little girls)b) What are their names? Eg. Mimi and Anis c) Name the colours. ( Teacher points to the colours ) Eg. Red , purple, yellow etc, HOT Answers (Blue colour collars , Hair with a green hair band)d) How many candles can you see it ? Eg 6 candles , HOT Answers ( 6 burning candles)e) What objects can you see about the cover ? Eg Cake , Candles , HOT Answers (Hair Band)

Teacher guides children how to sing Happy BirthdayHappy birthday to you.......,Happy birthday to you .......,Happy birthday , happy birthday......Happy birthday to you...........,(notes: teachers can use own creativity to create other song related to topic)

HOT QuestionsMake the children imagine, how do their parents celebrate birthday for them?Invite the children to tell simple story of their previous birthday?
