DRAFT 2017 TRANSPORTATION PROJECT PRIORITIES

Georganna Gillette [email protected]

DISCUSSION:

Each year in the spring, the TPO solicits for new transportation project priorities to include bicycle, pedestrian and trail projects from local governments and transportation providers. TPO staff works with each individual municipality and the Florida Department of Transportation to ensure support and documentation for each new project. The projects are discussed with the Growth Management Subcommittee and each one of the TPO committees. The Priority List is finally adopted by the TPO Board and submitted to the Florida Department of Transportation for funding with available state and federal funding. Staff will discuss the new bicycle and pedestrian projects and give an update on any changes to projects.

Orientation

BPTAC, May 22, 2017 Page # 25

Role of TPO

• Transcend jurisdictional boundaries

• Big Picture – Coordinating, communicating, and planning amongst modes and municipalities

BPTAC, May 22, 2017 Page # 26

Role of TPO

A TPO is a forum for local elected officials to

coordinate transportation impacts and improvements,

establish transportation policy,

develop transportation plans to fix short and long-term needs,

mutually agree on state- and federally-funded projects to improve regional mobility

BPTAC, May 22, 2017 Page # 27

TPOs Governed by Federal and State Law

• Federal law –

Areas >50 K pop. must have TPO to spend Federal transportation funds.

Board sets big-picture framework for transportation decisions.

Board has direct authority for TPO plans and programs required to keep transportation funds moving.
