Hi!

If you are reading this booklet, it means you are interested in one of our AIESEC internships in Bielsko-Biala. It's a great choice! Friendly people who work hard (while enjoying what they do) and play hard (even harder than they work) are the basis of any good internship-and you won’t find any gloomy slackers here! So, let me invite you for a short, spiritual trip to Bielsko-Biala, and to Poland in general!

Poland

situated in central Europe, next to the Baltic Sea. Borders with:

Germany Czech Republic Slovakia Ukraine Belarus Lithuania and a tiny enclave of Russia

Poland is populated by over 38 million people, which makes it the 6th most populated country in Europe.

The land is more than diverse: Mountains in the south Sea in the northBeautiful lakes in the north-east

Climate “Continental” or “Transitional”. What it really means is that it’s.. tricky. For instance, Polish autumn could look like that:

or

like that:

In the summer the temperature averages between 17 to 25 centigrade. It can be misleading, because one year it can be above 30 centigrade each and every day, and the next year it can be cool and raining every two, three days. In winter the temperature averages between -7 and O centigrade. Again, one year it can be -2 and no snow, the next year you can’t see your car under all that white stuff.

What is important is that you should come prepared for all kinds of weather. Even in the summer don’t forget to take some warmer clothes, and in winter bring along some gloves, a wool hat and preferably a scarf. Maybe you won’t have to use them, but as they say- “better safe than sorry”.

Money and prices

Polish currency is called “zloty”<zwothy>. Decimal coin is called grosz <grosch>, and each 1 złoty equals 100 groszy. Money comes in such coins and banknotes: 1,2,5, 10 and 20, 50 gr 1,2,5 zł,10 zł, 20 zł, 50 zł, 100 zł and 200 zł Shopping Here is a short list including prices of some the most popular products: Groceries: Bread- 3, 50 zł/ loaf Bread Rolls- 0, 30 PLN /piece Chocolate - 2, 50 PLN / bar Water- 1, 80 PLN/ bottle Milk- 2 PLN /box

At the bars/restaurants: Beer- 6 PLN /glass Juice- 5 PLN / glass Coke- 5 PLN / glass Drinks- 15 PLN / glass Pizza- 17-28 PLN A good meal- 15-30 PLN

1. Bielsko-Biała - a city in southern Poland with more than 175.000 inhabitants. Bielsko-Biała is composed of two former cities on opposite banks of the Biała River, Bielsko and Biała, amalgamated in 1951. The city is growing and now it is very large but still not as crowded as European metropolises. You can find here everything you need; cinemas, museums, large shopping centers and small shops with unique atmosphere inside, elegant restaurants, loud clubs and bars with a specific, friendly culture. If you get tired of the city you can relax in nature while hiking in nearby mountains. Within a radius of 100 km, there is a lot of interesting places to visit including Krakow and Katowice. You can get there from Bielsko-Biala by bus or by train

For fans of folk culture we recommend visiting such places as Wisla, Ustron, Brenna, Szczyrk. They are situated within 50 km from Bielsko-Biala.

But now it’s time for…Bielsko-Biała attractions!Bielsko-Biała is a perfect destination for you if you want to combine living in a city full of beautiful architecture and sight-seeing places with vibrant cultural and students life and on the other hand being close to nature!

But let’s have a look at our city:
