BICESTER AIRFIELD
HOME OF BICESTER GLIDING CENTRE AND BICESTER HERITAGE
Notes. 1. Bicester safely operates a
mix of powered and gliding operations.
2. It is a challenging environment for inexperienced pilots and those not familiar with cable launching of gliders.
3. Strictly PPR. Call initially Office 01869 252493
4. Please study the three generic diagrams for the CIRCUIT, THE TAXY IN, and THE TAXY OUT.
5. Note the three runs are visible. THESE ARE NOT RUNWAYS. THEY ARE NO-GO CABLE RUN AREAS Landings are made anywhere in the areas either side.
6. Airfield Frequency, when manned, 129.980 MHz
7. Airfield Elevation 267 ft

Disclaimer Please note Bicester is a grass airfield built in 1930’s and not all parts of the airfield are smooth within the perimeter track, you may encounter undulations on parts of the landing field. By operating at Bicester you accept that all operations (landing, ground movements, parking, taxing or taking off) are entirely at your own risk and liability and that BGC* (it's directors, members or associated persons) will not accept any liability for damages or claims to your aircraft, personnel or associated equipment during your visit. (*BGC denotes both Bicester Gliding Centre and Windrushers LTD.)

Notes 1.LOOKOUT IS PARAMOUNT
2.DO NOT FLY OVERHEAD
BELOW 3000 FEET AT ANY TIME DUE CABLE LAUNCHING
3.There are no markings at all on the airfield. It is just a big grass area
4.Radio is non- ICAO amateur gliding frequency ( 129.980). Do not ask for, or expect instructions. This means that we are essentially a non radio airfield.
2.You must sight the launch point bus and the winch to get your reference ( Ignore grass cutting lines ). Do not land over the cables
5.Expect gliders from odd directions
6 The whole airfield is landable with care.

Notes 1. There are six operating
directions. 24/06, 31/13, 36/18
2. Arrows show the multiple landing options.
3. Ideally, To avoid a long taxy, select the circuit that is on the side of the hangars. Do not cross over on the base leg. i.e Left circuit = Land left of launch point and vice versa
4. When landing on 06 and 13 the approach crosses housing and road. Caution required
5. Caution vehicles and pedestrians on the airfield

Notes 1. LOOKOUT IS PARAMOUNT
2. After landing, turn away from
the cable run. Never taxy over the cable run
3. There is an intermittent peri-track but it is safest to taxy on the grass within 50m of the edge
4. Expect gliders particularly from the direction of the big blue arrows but also from other directions
5. If you have landed on the other side to the Dispersal/Hangars, you must taxy as shown to pass behind the launch point. ( Or park behind it for short stays )
6. Be decisive in clearing the landing area, but stop if unsure about approaching aircraft
Longer stay parking is on the rectangle of grass, just North of the control tower, unless being used for Car events

Sterile Area Good For Power Checks
Notes 1. LOOKOUT IS PARAMOUNT.
2. The aim is to taxy out near the
edge of the airfield, do checks in a safe area, and then depart as shown by the arrows, without delay
3. Take offs at the same time as a winch launch must be avoided. If 129.980 is in use, it is advisable to call ‘ xxx about to roll’ .
4. Glider wings level on either side of the bus and/or yellow flashing light on the top of the winch indicates an imminent launch
5. SIGHT THE WINCH BEFORE ROLLING TO AVOID CROSSING CABLES
6. It is your responsibility to ensure that there is no glider launch and no one approaching before you taxy out and depart without delay
7. Radio not required to take off
8. Minimise flying over built up areas
