BREAD IN COMMON PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR Job Description JOB ROLE The project co-ordinator is responsible for co-ordinating all aspects of the Bread In Common programme and ensuring that it is delivered in a safe and timely manner and meets its objectives. The role requires a combination of project management, community development and the ability to process social history material. LINE MANAGEMENT The Project Co-ordinator reports on a day-to-day basis to the Executive Director and works closely with the baking adviser. SPECIFIC DUTIES Planning/Project Management 1. Ensure that the Bread In Common project plan is proceeding according to the milestones and objectives 2. Appoint and liaise with the contractors necessary to the efficient and high-quality delivery of the plan. 3. Liaise with B Arts staff necessary to the efficient delivery of the project plan. 4. Liaise with the project manager and web developer to ensure the effective creation and use of the project website, for a range of users. 5. Recruit and manage a team of 12 volunteers responsible for collecting social history material. 6. Organise and manage the programme of workshops, events, educational visits and exhibitions and support volunteer champions/ B Arts/ Baking Adviser to deliver these if required. 1

Job Description

The role requires a combination of project management, community development and the ability to process social history material.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Planning/Project Management

1. Ensure that the Bread In Common project plan is proceeding according to the milestones and objectives

2. Appoint and liaise with the contractors necessary to the efficient and high-quality delivery of the plan.

3. Liaise with B Arts staff necessary to the efficient delivery of the project plan.

4. Liaise with the project manager and web developer to ensure the effective creation and use of the project website, for a range of users.

5. Recruit and manage a team of 12 volunteers responsible for collecting social history material.

6. Organise and manage the programme of workshops, events, educational visits and exhibitions and support volunteer champions/ B Arts/ Baking Adviser to deliver these if required.

7. Promote the project activity through the local media, and through relevant newsletters and social networks.

Processing Social History Material

8. Research into the historical background of domestic and industrial baking in North Staffordshire to generate some starting points for community engagement.

9. Work with the Oral History Society and Staffordshire Archive service to ensure that information is collected and shared in an appropriate manner.

10.Upload, catalogue, and archive the Oral History material collected by the champions/ through the programme onto the central project website.

Compliance

11.Maintain all appropriate records necessary for reporting progress to the Heritage Lottery Fund and to the Board of Trustees.

12.Ensure the project is working within the defined budgets and provide financial updates as required by HLF and B Arts.

13.Ensure that all project activity conforms to relevant legislation and to B Arts’ own company policies (eg Health and Safety; Working with Children and Vulnerable Adults).

Communication

14.Maintain good communications with all internal and external project stakeholders and inform them of progress towards the fulfilment of the project plan.

15.Act as a central point of information for all participants in the programme and ensure that they have the support they need to engage in the project.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EXPERIENCE: ESSENTIAL

1. Experience of co-ordinating programmes of work in the cultural, heritage or voluntary sectors.

2. Experience of recruiting, motivating and managing volunteer programmes, including organisation of training and development.

3. Experience of liaising with a range of partner organisations including schools, museums and library services and older peoples services, ideally within the North Staffordshire context

4. Experience of organising practical multi-generational workshops and faciliating cross-generational learning.

5. Experience of collecting oral social history (and other relevant materials) in a range of settings and of processing and presenting social history material in an accessible format.

6. Experience organising community events and exhibitions

EXPERIENCE: DESIRABLE

1. Experience of relevant web-platforms, in particular those relating to uploading material (video, photo and sound hosting sites)

2. Experience of marketing, press and publicity3. Experience of using the web and social media to promote project activity

SKILLS

1. Strong inter-personal skills including working with diverse community groups and older people.

2. Ability to work independently, set and achieve objectives within a work programme.

3. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, ability to design and organise material to make it attractive and accessible to a range of individuals and ages.

4. Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail, including ability to organise and maintain a range of accurate records and quantitative and qualitative material.

KNOWLEDGE: ESSENTIAL

1. General administration, in particular ability to use computer programmes to create and maintain accurate records relating to the project

2. Knowledge of implementing relevant policy and best practice (health and safety, working with children and vulnerable adults, data protection)

KNOWLEDGE: DESIRABLE

1. Basic knowledge of the local area and history is essential, some knowledge of the domestic and industrial baking heritage of the area/the communities who live in the area would be desirable.
