Bible Venture - IntroductionAn exciting and inspirational board game brought to you by Elgin Baptist’s Young Adults Bible Study group. Our goals are simple. We aim to:
Grow useful Bible knowledge, especially what is most applicable today
Develop skills of teaching, speaking & listening to enable gospel communication
Create an experience and environment that is fun and enjoyable for all the church, whatever their personalities
Following (roughly) the journey of Christ Jesus and His Good News, you will travel from Bethlehem, in Judea, to the ends of the earth. In order to make progress, you will have to face various questions, armed with your memory of the Scriptures, especially the Lord’s example and instructions.
The challenges are split into five, colour-coded categories, played against the timer:Act on – mime out the Bible storyKnow it – answer correctly the quiz questionsPick up – draw the object or incidentPraise ‘um – hold a recognisable tune of popular praise, whatever the versionMind you – pay attention to the game or your team will lose out!
Watch out for the “Providence” cards, which remind us that “God moves in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform”. So often in the Bible and the history of the Church, the Lord intervenes through those who are available to accomplish His miraculous purposes. These are scattered through the various packs and will give you a surprise bonus to aid your progress.
One person is allocated the role of teacher at each location on the board and expected to communicate as effectively, efficiently and creatively as possible, so that their group can guess what is on the card.
Generally, up to two passes are allowed for each category, except for “Praise ‘um” where four passes are permitted. “Act on” and “Pick up” are also allocated double the time.
Where there are disputes among regarding the rules, use your sanctified common sense to discuss and resolve these. Remember when discerning what is right for this game to balance the great Christian virtues of compassion for each team member and justice where all gifts can flourish. For example, you may either nominate players best suited for the particular challenge, or each take turns and go round in strict order.
Above all, do not just be hearers or even players, but doers of this Bible Venture. So, work out your teams, engage your brain and energise your body. Are you ready for to leave Bethlehem and journey to the ends of the earth?
To start, print out the questions on to different coloured card, so that you can distinguish between the various challenges. The game board should be A3-sized and would be best backed with
cardboard to add strength. Please feel free to add and adapt Bible Venture as necessary to your requirements.
