cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:

10Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna

in the highest.

11And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round

about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the

twelve.

12And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: 13And seeing a

fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when

he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. 14And Jesus

answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples

heard it.

15And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them

that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the

seats of them that sold doves; 16And would not suffer that any man should carry anyvessel

through the temple. 17And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be

called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

The Gospels say that Jesus cursed a fig

tree. Did the tree wither at once?

Seeing a fig tree by the

roadside, he went up to itbut found nothing on it

except leaves. He told it,

"May fruit never come from

you again!" And

immediately the fig tree

dried up.

3 So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of

soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the

Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.

4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went

out and asked them, Who is it you want?

5 Jesus of Nazareth, they replied.

I am he, Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing

there with them.) 6 When Jesus said, I am he, they drew

back and fell to the ground.

7 Again he asked them, Who is it you want?

Jesus of Nazareth, they said.

8 Jesus answered, I told you that I am he. If you are looking

for me, then let these men go. 9 This happened so that the

words he had spoken would be fulfilled: I have not lost one

of those you gave me.[a]

10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the

high priests servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servants

name was Malchus.)

11 Jesus commanded Peter, Put your sword away! Shall I not

drink the cup the Father has given me?

12 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and

the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him 13 and

brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of

Caiaphas, the high priest that year. 14 Caiaphas was the one

who had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if

one man died for the people.
