“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

- Nelson Mandela

“Education: A Tool for Empowerment of Women” Empowerment is an active multidimensional process which should enable women to realize their full identity and power in all spheres of life. It literally means making someone powerful, facilitating the weak to attain strength and to increase one’s self-esteem. Educated women can play a pivotal role in eradicating poverty and accelerating development process. They can take active part in all the spheres of life and can educate their children irrespective of the boys or girls. Thus peace, prosperity and stability of a family depend on the females who formulate the household budget in a manner that it builds up the

healthy family environment.

1. New Ink Discovered-The new ink has a security feature that protects

from duplicity (a weapon to combat the problem of fake printing of

currency notes. It is based on fluorescence and phosphorescence

phenomena.

2. World’s Largest SuperComputer-SpiNNaker is world’s largest

supercomputer designed to think similarly to the way a human brain

does. It can finish more than 200 million actions in a second

3. Hyperloop Successfully completed Human Trials-Hyperloop is a

new form of ground transport that runs free of friction. It can cover a

distance of 35Kms in a mere 5 mins.

4. Secretagogin Protein-Scientists at Hyderabad based CSIR and CCMB

demonstrated the Secretagogin Protein. The role of this protein is to

increase insulin action in obesity-induced diabetes. The process usually

regulates secretion, insulin synthesis, signaling and maturation in

diabetes.

5. Mosquitotron-It is a non toxic yet effective mosquito trap. It uses UV light to attract and ultimately capture any mosquitoes in home.

6.CoronaVirus lockdown may have changed the way the Earth Moves — According to Nature, researchers who study the Earth's movements noticed "a drop in seismic noise... that could be the result of transport networks and other human activities" ceasing. Thomas Lecocq, a seismologist at the Royal Observatory of Belgium in Brussels, is one of the researchers who observed the drop. He and his team speculate this "could allow detectors to spot smaller earthquakes and boost efforts to monitor volcanic activity."

NEW-WORDS (in dictionary of 2020)

1. Amirite- "Amirite" is

"an informal variant

spelling of the phrase 'am I right' used to elicit

agreement or solidarity at

the end of an observation."

is a specific kind of

anxiety "caused by

a dread of

environmental perils,

especially climate

change, and a feeling of

helplessness over the

potential consequences

for those living now

and even more so for

those of later

generations."

3. Empty Suit- "Empty

suit" is a slang term for "an

executive, manager, or official regarded

as ineffectual,

incompetentr lacking in leadership qualities such as

creativity and empathy.".

4. Nothingburger-

"Nothingburger" is

slang for "an often

highly publicized event

or situation that is said

to have less impact or

significance than

expected."

2020 -By Preksha Sahu, 7th Semester Priorities, Responsibilities, Pastime as well as hobbies, the year bought us to a phase that one would have never thought off. From growing and earning to losing jobs and domestic violence, the year was a complete new scenario. People gained values as well as lost their loved ones. Farmers to rich society, we all fought for our lives. Never have someone ever thought of a life that’s Caged. Mother earth healed, and it’s children, the humans, got new discoveries. Ayurveda, elopathy, homeopathy as well as home remedies, every kind got the characteristics of the desired stuff, “Vaccine”. Money matters, and so is the life. Feeding and providing basic needs to migration labourers to the poverty stricken roadside people, the humble and generous ones were their deity. Many were provided with the “Weapons of Arms” i.e., the masks and sanitizers. Address of Hon. Prime Minister, religious T.V. shows, binge watching sudden viral of 'Nepotism' was the new normal. People gained as well as lost. As the nature was healing, most wild animals, through the jungles, reached localities. They affected the fields, destroyed crop yield, even harmed humans. Farmers were the most affected ones, as crops are their major source of income. Dabbawalas in Mumbai to employees of MNCs, people lost the sources of income, lost jobs and are opting for various sources of money, start-ups as well as job security. Stalks and shares lowered, prices hiked, the world has now become even more competitive. Where families were busy celebrating the complete lockdown at their homes, the working moms too served the nation. Be it police department, doctors, PSUs and many more, women succeeded in keeping family as well as people in work place, happy. For some, be it men or women, 'Work from Home” is the new normal. The year 2021 will be all about, who complained and who gained.

Rejection Isn’t Your Reflection! By Preeti Gabel, 3rd Semester

I take rejection as someone blowing a bugle in my ear to wake me up and get going rather than retreat. – Sylvester Stallone

Everyone is an unique individual with unique brains, preferences, and perspectives. What might attract to one, may not necessarily attract to other. As a result, there will be conflicts, and you are therefore likely to face rejection many times in life. Whether you are rejected in a social situation or a professional situation, you must accept that getting rejected is unavoidable and necessary part of life. Also, getting rejected can be blessing in disguise and extremely advantageous if handled appropriately. It will open doors for reinventing yourself, for learning new things and for personal growth. Rejection doesn’t define us unless we allow it. What we must always remember is that how we feel now is not how we are going to feel forever. We will endure, adapt, and move on in our lives. Take rejection as a wakeup call. It essentially improves your chances of success by making you become clear about ‘what to do’ and more importantly ‘what not to do’. All this will lead to valuable insights that will help in further progress or at least shift your thinking or the way you approach certain situations. Thus, rejection is just a number game. Viewing rejection as a learning experience will certainly help you to improve your odds and get more “yes’s” in future.

Engineering: A choice or trend Ritika Sharma, 5th SEMESTER

Engineering these days tends out to be among the most opted careers. Students aspire to get admissions into reputed IIT’s and NIT’s followed by a good placement with a decent package. But it can even turn out to be a massive disaster if this career option is not your priority but on alternative cases of depressions, addictions etc. has been witnessed and this happens when one lacks passion and surety to get to the destination of the journey they

have begun. Then in such cases misleading and disruptions are quite obvious. “Unless commitments are made, there are only promises and hopes; but No plans”. One can handle the peer pressure only when the determination and zeal to achieve your aim is firm. India has 6214 engineering and technology institutions which are enrolling 2.9 billion students out of which around 94% engineering graduates are not fit for hiring. Thus, don’t let expectations of others sway your decision, since career is solely an

individual’s choice.

Pioneers

Sir Roger Penrose (August 8, 1931) is an English mathematical physicist, Nobel Laureate in

Physics. Penrose has made contributions to the mathematical physics of general relativity and cosmology. He has received several prizes and awards, including the 1988 Wolf Prize in Physics, which he shared with Stephen Hawking for the Penrose–Hawking singularity

theorems,[2] and one half of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics "for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity".

Andrea Mia Ghez (born June 16, 1965) is an American astronomer and professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research focuses on the center of the Milky Way galaxy.[2] In 2020, she became the fourth

woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics,[3] sharing one half of the prize with Reinhard Genzel (the other half of the prize being awarded to Roger Penrose). The Nobel Prize was awarded to Ghez and Genzel for their discovery of a supermassive compact object, now generally recognized to be a black hole.
