‘Saa Vidyaa Yaa Vimuktaye’ - True education is for liberation!

What does it mean?There are many types of education. Music is one; sports is also a type of education; science is another; literature is yet another; painting is one more type of education. But the best among all types of education is ‘Atma Vidya’

(spiritual education) – the knowledge of one’s Atma or Self ! The goal of all kinds of education is to learn Atma Vidya or Self-knowledge (spiritual education)! How is it ?

All types of knowledge have emanated from God; they are not human creations.

You may be a doctor; but you have not created the plants or chemicals from which medicines are made! You may be an engineer; but you have not created the resources found in the

earth, water, fire, wind or sky! You may be a farmer; but you have not created the seed! You may be a painter; but you have not created the colours! You may be a musician; but you have

not created the sound! Finally, you may be a Guru or a teacher; but you have not created knowledge! Thus, the fundamental basis of all kinds of knowledge is Atma Jnana or Self-

Knowledge.

We are only using the materials created by God; but we cannot create them! This little logic is testimony to the existence of God! We are only learning how to utilise

the materials available in creation and not putting in even a little effort to know who created them. True education is to know who the Creator is ! Atma

Vidya or Self Knowledge (spiritual education) is more important than all kinds of worldly education. The chief purpose of Swami in establishing educational institutions is to teach spiritual education more

importantly than worldly education.

The credit of establishing the first educational institution based on teachings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba goes to late Sri Madiyala Narayana Bhat, lovingly called as ‘Anna’ – the elder brother, by his students and followers. He established Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva High School at Alike, his birthplace, a remote village in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka State way back in 1961. Later he also established another institution at Muddenahalli (in Chikkaballapura District), the birthplace of Bharatratna Dr. M. Vishveshwaraya, the famous engineer-statesman. The alumni of these institutions who were taught both ‘Loka Vidya’ and ‘Atma Vidya’ under the guidance of their fulltime dedicated teachers have come together to share their inspirational education by replicating such idealistic and value based educational institutions in rural Karnataka. Alumni and alumnae of Sathya Sai Institutions established by Bhagawan Baba have also joined in this noble mission.

The unique feature of these institutions is that high quality ‘man-making’ education is imparted totally free of any fees or charges so that even the deprived and the needy children can also get this kind of complete education. These institutions are already contributing their mite to the cause of nation building by creating strong individuals with a brilliant intellect, compassionate heart and competent hands.

This brochure gives photo glimpses of twenty four schools and colleges already functioning in fourteen campuses spread over nine districts of Karnataka. About 3500 boys and 1500 girls are studying in these institutions.
