USING THE SMARTPOWER DUETBLENDER/FOOD PROCESSOR TOCHOP, PURÉE, AND MIX

Refer to Food Processor Assemblyinstructions on page 6.

1. Remove cover and put food intowork bowl.

First, cut food into 2cm pieces. You willget a more even chop if you start withpieces that are all the same size.

Put pieces into work bowl with metalblade in place. You can put in up to1 cup of food at a time. If you want toprocess more, do it in batches.

2. Put on cover and lock it. Insertpusher. It is recommended that onehand be placed on the foodprocessor lid while in use, toprovide unit stability. Press the“On” button, press the “Pulse”button, and the “Food Processor”button (to pulse), then release.Repeat two to three times. Eachtime blade stops, let food piecesdrop to the bottom of bowl beforepulsing again. This ensures that theblade will chop them at every pulse.

Watch what happens to the food. Withpulse/chopping technique, you can getan even chop without danger ofoverprocessing. Check texture bylooking through work bowl. Be carefulnot to overprocess.

For a coarse chop, pulse only afew times.

3. If you want a finer chop or purée,press the “On” button and then the“Food Processor” button and letmachine run continuously until thefood is chopped as fine as you wantit. Check frequently through clearcover or bowl to avoid chopping toofine. Use a plastic spatula to scrapedown any pieces that stick to insideof bowl.

Onions and other food with a highwater content turn into a smooth puréevery quickly. Do not over- chop - lookat food frequently through work bowl.

7

Page 9: BFP-703 IB -3341E - Kitchen Warehouse · food processor cover interlock mechanism. 22. Never feed food into processor by hand. Always use the food pusher. 23.Makesurethebladeordischas

To purée, follow same procedure asfor chopping, but let machine run untilfood is a smooth purée.

New users are often surprised at howfast the processor works. You willquickly get used to its great speed.

These are some conditions that affectyour results:

• Size of pieces you put in bowl –all should be about the same size.

• Amount of food you process – don’tadd too much.

• Type of processing you choose –continuous or pulse/chopping.

ADDING FOODWHILE PROCESSING

To add liquid while the machine isrunning, pour it through open feedtube. This is especially useful whenmaking mayonnaise or dressings.A small hole in the pusher allows youto add liquids in a very slow, steadystream – useful when making sauces.

When you want to add small piecesof food like cheese, meat or garliccloves while machine is running, drop them through open feed tube.

To prevent spills when addingsugar and other dry ingredients, use a funnel.

REMOVING PROCESSED FOOD

Before removing processed food, press“Off” button and wait for blade to stopspinning. Then remove cover byturning it counterclockwise. Never tryto remove cover and work bowltogether; this can damage work bowl.

It is important not to let metal blade fallout of work bowl as you empty it.

Here are two ways to prevent it fromfalling out:

1. Before tilting bowl, use spatula toremove food from around blade.Carefully remove blade by theplastic hub.

2. Hold top of blade in place withfinger or spatula while pouring outprocessed food.

At this point, you may either lift thework bowl off motor base, or hold thecollar at the base and turn the handleof the bowl counterclockwise and liftblade straight up.

Your SmartPower Duet Blender/FoodProcessor makes many everyday foodpreparation tasks much easier andfaster. Follow these guidelines to getbest results when using metal bladewith food you prepare most often.

NOTE: Occasionally, a piece of foodmay become wedged between theblade and the work bowl. If thishappens, remove the cover, lift theblade out carefully and remove thewedged piece. Empty the bowl, reinsert the blade and lock the coverinto place. Process smaller amounts ofthe food at one time.

General Guidelines for Preparing Foods for Processing withthe Food Processor Chopping Blade

THE FOOD HOW TO PREPARE IT

Fruit and vegetables Peel and core if necessary. Remove large hardpits and seeds. Cut into 2cm pieces and processup to 1 cup at a time.

Meat, poultry and fish These should be very cold but not frozen. First, cutinto 2cm pieces. Put up to 230g in work bowl.If you want to chop or purée more, do it in batchesof not more than 230g each. Pulse/chop orrun continuously until desired consistency isreached. Check texture every 2 or 3 seconds toavoid overprocessing.

Bread, crackers or cookies Break into 2.5cm pieces and process continuouslyuntil texture for crumbs is fine. For seasonedcrumbs, chop with herbs. For buttered crumbs, dribble melted butter through feed tube whileprocessing - 1 teaspoon melted butter for eachslice of bread.

Crumb crusts Chop crackers or cookies as described inpreceding paragraph. Add sugar, spices and butterand cut into pieces, as specified by recipe.Pulse/chop until combined.

Hard cheese “grated” If it’s too hard to cut with a knife, don’t try to chopit – it may damage blade. First cut into 2cm pieces.Pulse/chop until pea-sized, then processcontinuously. You can chop it as coarse or as fineas you want. Simply run machine longer for finerchop. Process up to 100g at one time.

Whipping cream Processor-whipped cream works well for mostpurposes. It is excellent as a topping for dessertsor hot drinks. Cream must be at refrigeratortemperature. You can whip up to 1 cup at a time.

Parsley and other fresh herbs Work bowl and metal blade must be clean anddry. Remove stems; use leaves only. Dry herbscompletely. The more herbs you chop at once, thefiner chop you can get. Chopped herbs keep forseveral days in the refrigerator in airtight bags, orcan be frozen for months.
