2016 Scholar Faris Qubain, and educator Molly Diallo, returned from the Aspen Ideas Festival ready to tackle

disunity. After months of planning and conversation with school groups and administration, Branch Out was born.

Throughout the year, as part of Branch Out, junior and seniors served as mentors to freshman and sophomore students. They also hosted

“mix it up” lunches where upperclassmen facilitated conversations with diverse

groups of students. Branch Out participants volunteered at local events and hosted talks

with global thought leaders, such as Chris Plutte of Global Nomads Group. At

the end of the year, more than 50 students participated in a one-day

workshop where student facilitators coached participants in designing

activities for the coming year.

Becoming a Bezos Scholar means joining an incredible alumni community. After the year-long program, Bezos Scholars continue to support and inspire one another to spark positive change in their communities. You’ll find alumni leading movements in universities and colleges across the country and pioneering research, activism, and innovation around the world.

Alumni have access to opportunities to intern with TED and the Aspen Institute, among other organizations. Alumni celebrate at regional gatherings of food and conversation, and are invited to webinars and events with influential thinkers and change-makers.
