A combination of stories, investigative journalism, and interviews, the book also looks at the strong communities and an age-old gift culture that have helped Haitians survive, especially in the wake of the 2010 earthquake. Beverly Bell, coordinator of the economic and social justice group Other Worlds , is also associate fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies and visiting scholar at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. A writer and political organizer, she has worked with grassroots movements in Haiti for more than three decades.
