By 2018, Queensland GPs will have the ability to access components of their patient’s public hospital medical record
Specialist Outpatient Strategy

• Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011 amended in September 2016
• Provides the authority to share real-time patient information electronically with Queensland GPs
Amending legislation to provide authority for Queensland GPs
• New ‘opt out’ process and clinically informed patient consent messaging facilitated through 13 HEALTH
• Focus groups were led by Health Consumers Queensland (HCQ) to identify key messages for patients
• Empowering the patient – informing knowledge – know your rights
Patient privacy – opt out
Ensuring patients’ healthcare information remains secure and confidential

• Updates to Hospital and Health Service (HHS) policy
• Training and awareness to educate and encourage uptake
• HHS and Primary Health Network representatives engaged in development and local delivery

• No state-wide precedent
• Registration process developed in consultation with Queensland GPs
• GP access verified through QGov, the Queensland Government authentication system, AHPRA and Medicare
