TodayMarlin Johnson spent nearly 20 years leading

Bethany Home Association and helping the or-ganization grow from a long-term care facility to a continuum care retirement community.

Johnson marked his last day as administrator and CEO April 30. He an-nounced his resignation in March and a farewell re-ception will be held Tues-day, May 6, to celebrate his tenure.

Johnson came to Beth-any Home Association in 1994 after serving as the COO for Hartford Inc. in Sabetha. It was two Lutheran ministers that convinced him to apply and then accept the job as administrator.

Since joining BHA, Johnson has overseen numerous changes - both good and bad - in the healthcare field and services.

“The healthcare field has become one that you must always be alert to changes and regulations because those usually spell costs or opportuni-ties to be gained,” Johnson said.

He added that the services offered at a tradi-

tional long-term healthcare center has grown from simple intermediate care to skilled nurs-ing, respite care, assisted living and independent living. BHA has followed the industry trends under Johnson’s tenure by adding the indepen-dent living cottages and duplexes, building the assisted living home and purchasing the former bank building in Assaria to be converted into a homes plus.

Despite industry changes and an expansion of services, BHA has never abandoned its commit-ment to quality, personalized care.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone

who lives and believes in me will never die.”

John 11:25,26

If you are able, the passage could be memorized or put in a place where it will serve as a reminder during the month.

In Jesus, God has promised to be with us each day, to bring us life now and forever, and to

love us always. God’s living Word reminds us

of His love and help.

Johnson said he has contin-ued to stay on top of new tech-nologies and methods to allow staff to efficiently and effectively care for residents.

“We are always changing and always adapting to the present and the future and continuing to do things to stay out in front of the curve,” Johnson said. “Bethany Home was early into

the electronic world and has continued to grow in the ability to record more efficiently and more accurately and with more ability to glean information that allows for planning for that care to happen.”

But it hasn’t been all hurdles for Johnson. One of his favorite aspects of serving as adminis-trator is seeing people flourish and succeed.

“My job has allowed me the

opportunity to recognize peo-ple’s abilities and to place them into positions to succeed and to watch them fly,” He said.

Johnson said he will now turn his attentions to finding a new position.

Interim Administrator Linda Peters will take over his duties until a new, permanent admin-istrator is named.
