How many of your students currently share a room with a sibling at home?

• Communication is the root of 99% of roommate issues. Students are encouraged to talk to their roommates as soon as an issue occurs. Problems only worsen when a situation festers.

• Mediation - Students can go to their Resident Assistants if they are unable to resolve the problem themselves. They are encouraged to first bring a problem to their roommate’s attention before going to the RA.

• Room change process: email [email protected] – But your student won’t need a room change!

• Living on campus provides a host of benefits to students in a variety of areas. Campus residents tend to have higher GPA’s, are more likely to graduate on time, show increased satisfaction with the University and its resources, and are more likely to take advantage of student services and campus amenities and events.

• Convenience is another key factor in many students decision to live on campus. Nearby access to the campus library, their professor’s office hours, their peers for group work and study, and the Fitness Center are all reasons students love making campus their home. Others say that it’s much easier to participate in student clubs and organizations, as they are just a short walk away for the evening programs and meetings that they could not easily attend if they were commuting.

• Some additional benefits to living on campus:

• Social & Personal Connections gained by communal living

• High speed internet and cable TV with HBO GO

• Dining options just steps away from your front door

• Diversity of those living in your community

• Health and Wellness

• 24-hour building and campus security

• Access to University Events

• Amenities such as in-house laundry and 24-hour campus shuttles to LIRR
