• Fire temperature will flash over to 950’C in any building environment in accordance to IEC216

• Fire propagations via flammable building materials

• Thick smoke will suffocate and block visibility

• Halogen gases will irritates human’s body and destroy equipment

• High content of toxic gases which is hazardous and life threatening

(System Integrity Test)test made under most realistic conditions

cables of different cross sections and supporting/suspension systems are tested together

duration of test: 30 min

test temperature: over 1000°C

during the test a voltage of 400 V is applied

ISO-Standard Fire Curve

400 V

Performance-Tests on ability to maintain circuit integrityTests on ability to maintain circuit integrity

Circuit Integrity Test : 1. Able to withstand fire stress and yet not cause short circuit

at 750 ‘C only IEC 60331

Circuit Integrity Test : 2. Able to withstand fire/water/mechanical stress and

yet not cause short circuit at 950’C Ie. BS 6387 CWZ

System Integrity Test : 3. Defines the performance of Complete Wiring

System at extreme fire condition > 1000’C Ie. DIN 4102 pt 12

FIRE PREVENTION

Page 12: Betaflam

18.06.09

Prevention is BETTER than Cure

We do not know when and where a fire will start.

The way to go is to ensure fire is prevented through using non flammable material.

Non Flammable = High LOI (Limiting Oxygen Index)

Page 13: Betaflam

18.06.09

Flame Retardant - “Prevention”

the Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) is a measure for the fire retardance (ability to catch fire) of a plastic material

the LOI indicates the concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere necessary to allow a material to burn

High LOI also means self extinguishing !!!

Page 14: Betaflam

Prevention - Flame Retardant Test

IEC 332-3 Cat A, B, C cable bundle, placed vertically, is burning during 20 minutes at 750°C after test: 2.5m of burnt cable is tolerated self extinction of flames after test
