The news letter for this month was held off until we had our Jerry Ker-

mode Demonstration, however due to an unfortunate medical problem it

was canceled and hopefully Jerry will get back in the future.

Jottings for the November Meeting

First topic of discussion was the of possible participation and opportunity

for members to maybe work in shifts turning small projects . Chance to

show how items like pepper mills, Wine Bottle Stopper, Small bowls etc.

Several members have offered to put on a demonstration. Crystal Harvey

of Golden Hills Center will be contacted and dates will be set up.

AAW has announced that the election of new board members has been

completed and results will be published in an upcoming Journal.

Several turners have submitted works to the Morro Bay Art Center, open

house will be Sunday November 16th from 2 to 4 PM

Jottings Continued

More bowls have been collected and there is a wish for more, Dennis Ivans

who has coordinated the shipping will do so again after a sufficient

amount is collected.

Contact has been made from Channel Island Woodturners regarding a

hook up line to coordinate demonstrators schedule, this would give each

chapter a chance to have or forego demos. After the new year more will be

put in process. This brings up the subject of hosting.

Hosting a demonstrator means to house him or her for possibly 1 to 2

nights. It doesn’t not mean that the host would use his or her shop due to

small capacity. . There are some shops which can accommodate the demo.

I was told by several members that they would entertain the turner with

the idea that the actual demonstration would be elsewhere

If you feel you and your spouse is willing to host, please let me know and a

list will be set up.

A discussion was held on the continuance of the Challenge project as par-

ticipation was getting very low. Gordon Rowland Suggested that a topic

should be open to the group each month on various topics. To start off the

December meeting will cover SANDPAPER and it’s uses

A suggestion from Dennis Ivans was made and will be brought up for a

plan that will open members shops for a 2 to 3 hour visit perhaps once a

month, possibly on the 2nd Saturday after our regular meeting. At this

time the host member could show a new TOOL IDEA, WAY OF

FINISHING or what ever requests are made.

Bob Gleason has taken his talents to a different level. Bob has done

some research on Vacuum Forming. He has fabricated a vacuum

chamber from PVC pipe and hooked it up to a pump . This will enable

him to form Pen blanks using just about any material available. He

told of a blank that he made using Epoxy and seed from a neighbors

tree and turned a pen and gave it to the neighbor.

Be aware that this type of vacuum forming can be applied to other ma-

terials. Mike Rude reminded some of us on the work of Mike Shuler ,

using Pine Cones, Artichoke buds, and others items.

Jim Rinde of the Channel Islands chapter has done a lot of work with

Epoxies and will be contacted to see if he would do a demo for us.

Rick Hasseman Got some turning

hints from Jimmy Clews in fabricating

a “Saucer” like form and added a Ball

made of Goncarlo Alves and is now 10

months ready for the 2015 picnic.

grinding Jig that he was able

to get off the internet. Mike

Will Hanneman has affirmed that our Holiday Luncheon will be held at

the Pear Valley Winery on Sunday January 25th.

This date does not conflict with Foot ball play

offs nor the Super Bowl
