I have the wifi set up in the basement so that my Xbox can stay hardwired to the router (who likes game lag?).

That's fine for the basement and first level of our townhome, but in the upstairs bedrooms it makes for a weak, often spotty, signal. I picked up the N300 hoping to extend the wifi upstairs, and it did.

The setup was simple: It asked to be plugged in close to the router, so I did. I just plugged it in and connected to it on my laptop. It asked which wireless network and for the password.

Took a few seconds and we were done. I then unplugged it and moved itupstairs where it retained all settings and began its job. Now I am not a networking person by any stretch.

I pretty much know how to follow directions, and how to call Comcast if I have a problem. So for this extender to be so simple for me to set up means you should be in the clear.

The good news is the extender does exactly what it's supposed to: extend the wifi upstairs (with full bars). Of course an extender will never be as fast as the basic wifi, so while I can connect to wifi at 10.47Mb/s down, the extender only hit 5.03.

That's fine because in the ensuing couple weeks devices upstairs have had a nice, consistent internet access without the chronic dropped signal they used to suffer.

So while it hasn't been quite fast enough to stream HD vids (for which I blame Comcast, not Netgear), it has given more than enough access forreading on the Kindle, downloading music on the iPod, and gaming on my phone - none of which I could reliably do before upstairs. And for half the cost of a month's internet, it's totally worth it.
