BEST URLPRACTICES
1.Try to use a single domain & sub domainYour website is far more likely to performwell in the rankings and would help therest of your site's content perform well ifit's all together on single domain and subdomain.
2.The more readable, the betterIts not a rocket science that the easier a URLis to read for humans, the better it is forsearch engines. If humans cant read orunderstand your URL’s, neither can searchengines.
3.Keywords in URLsIt's still the case that using the keywordsyou're targeting for rankings in your URLs is asolid idea because it helps indicate to thosewho see your URL on social media, in an emailetc. Also keywords in the URL show up insearch results
4.Shorter > LongerShorter URLs are generally more preferable.Shorter URLs are easier to parse, to copy andpaste, to share on social media, and to embed.
5.Try to Exclude the ‘Stop’ wordsIf your title/headline includes stop words (and,or, but, of, the, a, etc.), it's not critical to putthem in the URL. It can sometimes help tomake a URL shorter and more readable
6.Keywords repetition are pointless
Repetition like this (Canoe Puppies) doesn't help your search rankings. Don't hurt your chances of earning a click by overdoing keyword matching/repetition in your URLs.
7.Match URLs to titles (if possible)
The URL below give us the insights into thearticle’s content. We should aim for a similarlevel of clarity in our own URLs and titles.
8.Fewer Slashes (Folders) is betterTake a URL like this:randswhisky.com/scotch/lagavulin/15yr/distillers-edition/pedro-ximenez-cask/750ml
And consider, instead, structuring it likethis:randswhisky.com/scotch/lagavulin-distillers-edition-750ml
It's not that the slashes will necessarilyharm performance, but it creates aperception. There's no hard and fast requirement—thisis another one where it's important to useyour best judgment.
