DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL NADERGUL
SOCIETY REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE 2018
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow
ZuZu welcomes all of you to the third academic year at Delhi Public School Nadergul.
As I recollect one of my favourite poems by Alfred Tennyson, I bid farewell to the
second year with hopes of a fun filled, enriching and happy third year in school.
The entire month of May saw me doing my holiday homework, spending time with
my family, going to my village and completing the tasks given. One of my favourite
past time I had was to complete the Reading books given to me by my teachers. I
also eagerly waited for the new session to begin as I always understood that my school
is a fun place for me and it would remain so forever.
With this zeal and enthusiasm, I walked into the portals of my school on June 1st
2018. Oh, what fun it was to meet my friends after a long summer break. The cheers
were all around and the smiles invigorating. The food we shared from our tiffin boxes
tasted sweeter than the many mangoes of the summer. No wonder it is said
“Friendship is the sweetest and strongest bond.” I was very happy to meet my
Principal, my teachers and all my old dear friends. I found my school brimming with
new children and also with new teachers. The first day assembly was one that I would
remember for a long time to come, we sang our favourite songs, one of it being my
School Song “We are from DPS, Wewill be the future”. My school also donned a fresh
look with the new building all ready to be occupied. We soon settled ourselves to
enjoy the various activities that our school always had in its store for the year.
Telangana formation day
June 2nd is written in the history of our state as this was the day 3 years ago the 29th
state of Telangana was formed. I take pride in belonging to the youngest state led by
a dynamic leader. 2nd June saw as all of us celebrating the formation day with
fervour and enthusiasm. Our friends sang the state song and danced to a historical
ballad highlighting the significance of the state and its origin. I realised that there is
indeed a lot of sacrifice and hard work that goes into the formation of a state. The
dreams of many coupled with the vision of great leaders is what a state is all about.
The assembly that morning echoed with the sentiments of many leaders who made
this dream of the state made possible.
As Zuzu and his friends settled down it was time for my pre-primary team to join the
school. A cry here and there, a smile hither and thither, chocolates all around as
these tiny friends of mine walked into school on the 6th of June. The new building
was all decked up for these young ones. Balloons all over and chocolates flying all
around, the pre -primary children settled to a fun filled energetic year ahead. Some
of the parents were seen crying tears of joy as their young ones walked into school
holding the hands of the teacher.
Whose child is this....
These lines brought in the sentiments of young mothers and teachers who together
mould the bundle of joy in their hands.
Explorers day
Pre-primary in the meantime were busy exploring the school as part of the Explorers
day. They walked into a senior class room one day, the mess hall another day, the
principal’s room the other day, the garden and the play area the fourth day and so
on. The concept of this day is to make the pre -primary young ones wean themselves
from their homes and consider the school as their second home. They discover,
understand and settle down in their new home sooner.
Swatch Tann Swatch Mann
One of our Prime Minister’s favourite slogan is a favourite slogan of our school too.
Swachata Diwas is practised in our school on many occasions. The pre- primary also
were taught these basic etiquettes of Swatch Tann Swatch Mann. Simple manners of
being neat and tidy, cleaning of hands, the difference between good touch and bad
touch were all part of this activity.
Aksharabhyasam
Tradition and culture are deep-rooted in our school. It was a ceremonial welcome
that our school gave the pre Nursery children who entered the portals of the school
for the first time. In sync with learning the
school performed the Aksharabhyasam
ceremony where in each and every child was
given a slate and made to trace the first letter
with the help of the teacher. This traditional
event amidst the chants of hymns added the
necessary touch to the start of the pre nursery
learning years. We all bless them and hope that they should imbibe the best of
education and values in this wonderful temple of learning.
Governance model
My principal announced the next day a new idea that
it is not only the student Council but each and every
child of the school who would be recognised as a
leader in the reckoning. She called this the
governance model which involved each and every
child of the class to receive a badge of leadership by
the class teacher. I was happy when I was declared
the discipline monitor of my class. This badge on my
shoulder will always ensure discipline in my life. My
parents were very happy when they saw the young
shoulders of mine holding this responsibility. My
other friends too were given varied roles. Now our
class really takes care of ourselves as we are given
that responsibility by our school. What an Idea.
Environment week
Green is always a favourite colour to every
DPS student. Green stands for peace, a
symbol of nature. It stands for all that is
true in the environment. In its two years of
growth I am happy that my school has
planted close to 3500 plants in the school
campus. Every birthday is a celebration
with a plant. Every guest who comes to a
school leaves with a small plant in their
hands. The concept of being green is nurtured by all of us. This year the environment
week celebrations in the first week of June saw all of us taking up plantation in a
large measure. Some of us planted saplings in coconut shells, while some of us
numbered the plants and adopted them.
A green rally, an oath to preserve and conserve plants, a skit on the life in the 70s and
the life now - all these added up to the environment week celebrations in school.
EID celebrations
The last day of the month also saw the school
celebrating the festival of Eid in the true meaning
of brotherhood. Dressed in all colour our teachers
sang a beautiful hymn from the Quran and
explained to all of us the tenets of Islam. I
understood that these principles are the same
that my parents taught me. After all, as my
Principal often says God is one and all religions
talk only of humanity and service. Inshallah! The day was sweeter with our canteen
serving us the sweet dish of kheer.
CLASS NAMES
Zuzu, forgot to inform you that our classes now have different names, we are no
longer called A, B, C, D, but our classrooms are named after the names of famous
mathematicians, astronauts, Nobel Prize winners and scientists. Our pre-primary
wing is also colourfully named after flowers, fruits, planets. So we now call ourselves
the Lilies of grade 1 or the plums of grade 2, the Einstein of Grade 4 and the Tagore
of grade 8. As we walk in the footsteps of these eminent personalities we indeed look
up to them as role models and visionaries who can encourage us to dream high and
achieve high.
READING CARDS
And other interesting idea that caught up with us is the novel method of improving
our reading and logical skills. Our substitution classes are now becoming little more
meaningful with reading cards. These are comprehension passages from various
books, Sudoku puzzles, IQ puzzles, quizzes and maps to help us learn and improve
better. What a nice way to use our free time to collectively involve ourselves in some
meaningful activity.
VISION 40
Some of my senior friends say that they love the initiative that the school picked up -
a tie up with Vision 40 an Institute that offers extensive coaching in Science and Math
to improve our logic and reasoning skills. We have a batch of around 80 students
who have enrolled for these classes. Zuzu wishes all his friends good learning ahead.
Student elections:
One of the most awaited days in my
school is the investiture ceremony
where in young leaders are invested
with responsibilities. The Assembly on
the 6th of June declared all the posts for
the academic year. Very soon it was
time for nominations, for campaigning,
for speeches and the declaration of
results. Various leadership roles were
announced. I was happy that my school
gives us such a podium where
leadership is trained from a very young
age. This year we also heard that the
young leaders would be selected from
the pre -primary group and also the
primary group. House nominations
took place on the 10th and 11th. W e were
all allotted one of the four houses
namely Emerald, Topaz, Sapphire and
Ruby. The student leaders were elected by an online voting system. Excitement ran
high as the results were supposed to be declared the next day. 13th of June was one
of the best days to remember. The results of the student elections were announced
and the young proud leaders, all friends of mine, rushed forward to shake hands with
the Principal as she declared the student Council for the year 2018-19. It was also a
proud moment for these young leaders and for young people like me to look up to
these leaders of mine. I wish and pray that they would take up the responsibilities in
true earnest and keep the flag of the school flying high.
INVESTITURE CEREMONY
Drum beats and march past- these echoed in our school Grounds on 29th of June as
the house captains marched ahead with pride taking
their contingent forward. The student Council of the
Head boy, Head Girl, Sports captain carried the flag
of the school. This year the Green Crusaders team and
DPS chargers added the value of being green and
vision of sacrifice before self, while they marched. A
patriotic touch to the formal ceremony was with the
colour party of the students marching ahead with the
flag forming the tricolour. The 29th of June saw the
school celebrating the third investiture ceremony
with Air Vice Marshal Radha krishna Radish and
Shree Narayana Murthy the director of RCI as the
chief guests on the occasion. Proud parents and
proud teachers saluted as this band of leadership
marched along to the beats of “Believe in yourself”
ISA
Our school last year embarked on the journey towards ISA in Association with British
Council. The seven projects that we picked up drew to a conclusion this month when
my teachers painstakingly collated all our activities. Our school would be indebted
to St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School in Kenya and Irushadhiyya school in
Maldives which were our partner schools in this project. We thank them sincerely
and promise that our association with them would continue in the years to come.
International Yoga day
This month named after the god of JUNES is celebrated for the summer solstices, the
day with the most daytime. 21st of June was celebrated to commemorate this
summer solstice and also as International Day of yoga. Taking the clarion call given
by our Prime Minister we at Delhi Public School Nadergul celebrated the day of yoga
with 4139 children and 150 teachers from different schools gathered in our school
premises. It was a sight to behold when all these children performed yogasanas for
a period of 7 minutes. This gathering is now recorded by the Asia Book of Records
as the largest congregation of students performing Yogasanans. We thank the school
for giving us an opportunity to be a part of such a pious event.
TEACHER ALMANAC
It is not only we who use the almanac regularly. My teachers
also have been given an almanac to record all events or
activities, scholastic performance of children, records of
enrichment classes, remedial classes and so on. This book I
think would help my parents understand my performance as
the yearlong activities that I participate in school will now be
recorded.

ACHIEVEMENTS
Success and my school go hand in hand.
We are bestowed with the best of facilities.
Zuzu is happy to inform that two of his
friends Aayush Singh and Viswaja have
been recipients of zonal awards of
excellence in Science Olympiad
Foundation 2017-18.
SCHOOL GROWTH
It is now a pleasant sight to watch the school dispersal with happy faces coming out
into the corridors from both the buildings. Zuzu is happy that his school has grown
in numbers and strength once again reiterating the fact that ‘excellence breeds
excellence’.
I hear a bell ring. Bye dear folks its time for my English class. We are getting ready
for our literary week competitions coming up next month. So see you soon.
