Intelligent Treatment in Interventional Oncology

This is a new concept in the care of cancer and it complements the other departments in any oncology set up. It

involves the use of state of the art imaging technology like, ultrasound, CT, CT-PET and C-arm/cathlab to guide

various minimally invasive procedures to either cure or palliate various cancers in the human body.

There are various treatment options and these include targeted chemotherapy, targeted loco regional treatments

like Radiofrequency (RF) ablation, Radioembolisation also called selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT),

chemo reduction or adjuvant /combination treatment.

Any patient with any form of cancer can be considered for these treatment options provided they are managed in

any comprehensive cancer care facility.

These interventional procedures are very patient friendly as there is no need for general anaesthesia or any form

of surgery.

The department is the first of its kind in India with a dedicated Lab which is equipped with the most advanced

infrastructure. It boasts of its own RF generator to perform Radiofrequency (RF) ablation procedures.

The department of interventional oncology is staffed with a dedicated team of interventional radiologists (one

senior consultant, one junior consultant & one registrar) and they in turn are supported by specialized nursing and
