Our readers named City Hall as Oakley’s Best-looking Building. Located at 3231 Main St. in Civic Center Plaza – the anchor for the revitalization and beautification of Oakley’s historic downtown – City Hall was completed between 2006 and 2007. It houses the Oakley Police Department, Council Chambers and administrative offices in a magnificent 25,000-square-foot space. If you haven’t checked out City Hall by now, drop by for a City Council meeting. You’ll exercise your civic prerogatives and enjoy good architectural scenery at the same time.

Also winning recognition for Best-looking Building was Diamond Hills Sports Club and Spa at 1510 Neroly Road. Diamond Hills is a beautifully designed, well-appointed private club that includes 17 tennis courts, a three-pool, two-spa aquatics complex plus large recreation and picnic area. The 57,000-square-foot club houses a 17,000-square-foot fitness center, two group exercise rooms, group cycling studio, full-court gymnasium, Kids’ Club, Children’s Play Center, Youth Exercise Center and luxurious locker rooms complete with steam and sauna. The 3,500-square-foot full-service European day spa is open to the public and features seven luxurious treatment rooms.

The Best News in 2011-12 was the opening in August of 2011 of Fire Station 93, located on 530 O’Hara Ave. The 9,000-square-foot facility, which includes

an apparatus bay for three engines, living quarters and an emergency operations and training center, sits on land purchased from the Romiti family, whose patriarch, Albert Romiti, lived on the land all his life and served as a volunteer firefighter. A

memorial plaque bearing Romiti’s name and the names of dozens of volunteer firefighters appears on the Station 93 Firefighter Memorial, which was transferred from the station’s former Second Street location.
