Having an online presence, whether you are a small one man company or a multinational business is no longer just an advantageous element, it is an essential one. With more and more people taking to looking for products and services online, having a good website is one of the best ways to showcase who you are to potential clients. It may be the first point of contact a customer has with you and so it is absolutely vital to present a professional and unique image of who you are as a company.

When designing a website for your company there are generally two options open to you; to use a pre-built template or to have one created on a bespoke basis.

Template Website

A template website is basically a pre-built website which is available for anyone to purchase and use. Once you have paid you will be able to customise the site choosing from a range of colour schemes, backgrounds and have the ability to add your own logos and images. If you are quite technically minded this is something you could do yourself or you could pay a developer to create this for you. Template websites are generally cheap to purchase and are quick to set up however there are several drawbacks. The first is that you could be one of a hundred other companies using the same template design; the only thing which would differentiate you would be your own uploaded logo. The second is that it is quite difficult to customise the website outside of the parameters set up, so if you wanted something quite specific then you might find you struggle.

Bespoke Website

A bespoke website is a website which has been tailor-made to meet your exact specifications. A designer will spend time learning about how your business works, what you want your website to get across, how you want things to be laid out and will then create something which meets this required brief. There are many companies offering bespoke web design in London and across the country who can do this at a competitive rate so don’t write the idea off because you think it might be too costly. Having a bespoke website design means you have complete control over your online presence, from the way the website looks to the way it works. A bespoke website design should be responsive meaning that it will adjust to work with any browser or device and this should be future proof; a good designer will use coding which will not go out of date.

Although bespoke website design is more expensive than using a template, and takes more time to create, it should be thought of as an investment.

So whilst a template website might be useful in the interim, if you want to see a return for your website and to create a strong online presence it is certainly worth considering a bespoke website.
