With assets spread across various industries in the Kerala region (India), EVM Group always keeps an open mind on new opportunities to broaden its business. In 2013 the group equipped one of its seventeen movie theaters with Auro 11.1 by Barco. The group management was astounded, straightaway, by the immersive technology, and spectators soon followed suit. Less than a year later, EVM Group decided to fi t a second screen with the new sound format. Both Kothamangalam venues have been a hotspot for Kerala’s fi lm afi cionados ever since.

EVM Group manages a franchise of over seventeen movie theaters in the region. Several of the group’s theaters are equipped with 2K 3D projection technology, offering customers an exciting 3D cinematic experience. Each of these venues draws in a regular crowd for a schedule fi lled with Malayalam, Tamil, Bollywood classics and the latest international blockbusters.

Future-proof technologyIn 2013, the group decided to equip its Ann Cinemas movie theater in Kothamangalam with Auro 11.1 by Barco. Introducing a three-layered sound (overhead, height and ear-level), this technology manages to draw fi lm fans into the story told on screen more than ever. Mr. Robin Jose, managing director of Ann Cinemas, refl ects: “We studied other alternatives, but Auro 11.1 really stood out. Besides being blown away by the immersive sound experience, we were also intrigued by the user-friendliness and future potential of the format. I believe, like in Hollywood, that more and more Bollywood fi lm studios will soon be producing fi lms in the Auro 11.1 sound format.”

The sequelAlready one of the largest single screen theaters in the Kerala region, the 600+ capacity Ann Cinemas became the showpiece of the entertainment franchise more than ever. Less than a year later EVM Group opened a new screen, in the same compound. Inspired by the excellent reception of the fi rst installation, the EVM Talkies theater was also fi tted with a brand-new Auro 11.1 by Barco system.

Smooth implementation trajectoriesEVM Group was fi rst introduced to Auro 11.1 by Mr. Baburaj, managing director at Cinematics. A long-standing technology partner for EVM Group, Cinematics handled both implementation projects. “Our team worked closely with the EVM Group and the Barco technicians”, says Mr. Baburaj. “Being new to the system, we depended heavily on their advice.
