The teenage trio has scored solo roles in a major production at St Kilda’s National Theatre this month. Tahlia Tabone, 13, Jesse Tabone, 16, and Jade Auffray, 17 were hand- picked from 1600 students from the Children’s Performing Company of Australia and cast in the show. Pure Imagination features more than 40 songs, with classics from Stephen Schwartz, Jerry Bock and Lionel Bart. Jesse Tabone is busy rehearsing his role as Tevye, the father of five daughters. ‘‘I’m playing in Fiddler on the Roof,’’ he said. ‘‘I’m very excited but the nerves haven’t kicked in yet. It’s just a lot of fun for now.’’ On the other end, Jade Auffray is practising her pick-pocketing techniques for her role in Oliver. ‘‘This is my favourite time of the year – production time,’’ she said. ‘‘I can’t wait, I love my part.’’ Pure Imagination’s producers said the show would be a tribute to musical theatre’s great songwriting teams. ‘‘The show will include classics such as Frank Loesser’s Guys and Dolls, to more modern hits from Jonathan Larson’s Rent,’’ organisers said. ‘‘We honour the pure imagination that has brought these wonderful songs to the stage.’’ Pure Imagination will be staged at the National Theatre, St Kilda, from June 8-19.
