Wileys Creek bridge traffic switch The Wileys Creek bridge is one of the largest bridges on the project. At 45 metres long and 42 metres wide it will be made of 108 precast concrete planks and will take about two years to complete.

In December we will need to move highway traffic onto a new temporary road so we can start building the new bridge.

To get ready for this switch we will be doing night work between 6pm and 5.30 am weekdays from the week starting Monday 3 December. It is expected to be completed in one week, weather permitting.

Improving safetySome of the benefits of the new highway are dedicated right turn lanes, u-turn bays, overpasses and underpasses which will allow for safer turning movements for motorists. The construction of u-turn bays is being prioritised so they are available for use as soon as possible.

Construction updateMajor work on the upgrade started in September this year. Site preparation is nearing completion and you can now see some of our biggest machinery in action around the project.

Upcoming work includes:

• Bulk earthworks using scrapers and excavators

• A major traffic switch off the Princes Highway onto a temporary road around Wileys Creek

• Work on the foundations of 11 bridges

The construction team will take a break between 21 December 2018 and 5 January 2019. As concrete barriers will still be in place, the Princes Highway will remain at 80 km/h through the site at this time for the safety of motorists.

Safety and access during constructionDuring construction there will be some impacts on local roads and property accesses. We will work with impacted residents to ensure you have access to your property at all times.

Please consider the road conditions and your own safety when making right hand turns to and from the highway.

The reduced speed zones can cause traffic to travel closer together, making it harder to locate gaps in traffic in both directions. Reduced road shoulders also mean highway traffic may no longer be able to pass vehicles which are waiting to make a right-hand turn.

Please consider turning left only into and out of your local road or property and travelling to the next side road with a dedicated right-hand turning lane. You will find these at:

• Mullers Lane

• Meroo Road

• Croziers Road

Additional turning bays are under construction at Boxsells Lane and Lamonds Lane and will be ready in the next few months.

Once in the side street, you can then make a u-turn to re-join the highway and travel back to your destination.

We understand this may cause some inconvenience and extended travel times and thank you for your patience and consideration.

The Bomaderry training hub will support local training and employment opportunities in infrastructure

Supporting local employment A new training facility as part of the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade was officially opened last month by Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey, Member for Kiama Gareth Ward and Member for South Coast Shelly Hancock.

The ‘Bomaderry Hub’ is a part of the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Skills Legacy Program aimed at upskilling under-represented or disadvantaged groups, particularly in regional areas.

The Bomaderry Hub will host a variety of training programs and is available to current and potential employees on the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade.

The initial focus is to have one in four employees on the project in training to build their skills.
