Thesis Statement

For my thesis, I am creating a mobile application that creates a new system for secretive communication for its users. Although the project as a whole is called Secret Communication System, or SCS for short, the mobile application, and the other smaller projects that accompany it are called Vision. Vision is a graphic design project that makes visible the underlying geometry of daily life. In unveiling this geometry, Vision suggests a new form of communication. The first part of the project is a mobile application that combines edge-recognition technology with mobile photography, turning ordinary iPhone photographs into geometric renderings. This app creates a symbol-based system for its users, leaving little to no room for words. Vision is the platform for an experimental, exclusive system for communication. It doesn’t arbitrarily put photographs into the vast web of networks, but strives to create myths and meanings to the images that are shared through it. The second part of the project consists of a booklet and colleteral designs for a launch party. The booklet contains photography, art and writing that further speaks about the presence of geometry in the world. While these components can be observed separately, it is recommended that they are put under consideration simultaneously for full comprehension.

Launch Party &Inspiration Book

In addition to the mobile app, I’m also designing invitations, posters and other collateral for a hypothetical launch party. The guests of the party will have to follow clues left on the streets of New York in order to find the location of the party.

The inspiration book is a collection of images and writing that have inspired this project. They’re all collected in my thesis tumblr blog, b-esinthesis.tumblr.com. The purpose of the book is to introduce a bit of external context to the project, and highlight what visually inspired its creation.
