CHANGE,
by Rich Kochik, Head Deacon
“A COMMUNITY OF SERVANTS SERVING OUR COMMUNITY”
About a month ago the church installed a new mailbox (change). The door on the one
we had would not close. We replaced it with a well built one. It had a magnet to make
sure the door would stay shut. It wasn’t cheap but the thinking was that it would last a
long time. However just this past week, in a flash, all that changed. A trailer came
loose from a vehicle taking out the post the mail box was mounted on. I immediately
thought this would change everything. It may change my daily routine. Would I have to
buy a new one? Would I need to speak to the guy involved in the incident?
Change…in general, who likes it? We like to feel comfortable so we resist change, run
from it, even hide from it. Change can make us ill.
The Bible is filled with verses and accounts of change. Change is real and necessary.
For salvation we must change our mind (repent) and agree that God’s way is better
than our way. For spiritual maturity we allow the Holy Spirit to change us as it is
written: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed [changed] by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and
perfect, will of God.” In Genesis 12:1-3 God commanded Abraham to change: Now the
LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house
to the land that I will show you (change). And I will make of you a great nation, and I
will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless
those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the
families of the earth shall be blessed.”
In Acts 8:26 God asked Philip to leave his place of comfort. "Now an angel of the Lord
said to Philip, 'Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusa-
lem to Gaza (change).' This is a desert place." Cont. on Back...
The choir will be singing "Oldies but Goodies" many weeks
in the opening minutes of the worship service. Have any
favorites you would like us to sing? We welcome your
suggestions!
It's always fun to have special music. If you know someone
who has a musical talent (plays an instrument, wants to
sing in a small group, etc. ), please tell me or why don't YOU
get blessed by being willing to share your own talent!
THANK YOU by Judi Kochik
In recent weeks we have been blessed to host 2 evening concerts. Thank you for attending,
bringing drinks & treats, and making The Master's Men and The Engraved Worship Team feel
welcome. Both evenings were unique and times of lifting up the name of Jesus through music.
I'll let you in on a secret. ..the deacons asked me to invited The Master's Men for a return concert
- and they've agreed. We've also extended a similar invitation to The Engraved...both groups are
checking their schedules. Watch for confirmed dates and times in next month's newsletter.
Beyond Belief: Exploring the Character of God
by Jim Barringer and Admin
This is one of the new studies several adult Sunday School classes will be focusing on this month. We
invite you to join us at 9:45 am to help increase your knowledge of God by studying His character and
moral attributes.
*This six-week study is not about just knowing of God; it is about knowing Him more intimately. We
could spend a lifetime studying the character and attributes of God revealed in the Bible and still only
begin to scratch the surface of understanding the sovereign God of all creation. This study will focus on
God’s holiness, love, justice, forgiveness, wisdom and faithfulness. As we begin to understand what
God is like and how He works in our lives, we will also learn about ourselves and who we are in Christ.
No matter your age or where you are on life’s adventure, there is a place for you here in one Berea’s
Sunday School classes. We look forward to learning together, exploring and developing our relationship
with God.

CHOIR NOTES & ANNOUNCEMENTS
by Judi Kochik
From the Youth Director,
Suzy Kochik
Are you a fan or a follower? The youth have been engaged in a study by Kyle Idleman
titled Not A Fan. Together we consider what it really means to call ourselves a Christian
and challenge each other to take an honest look at our relationship with Jesus.
The dictionary defines a fan as “an enthusiastic admirer.” Fans want to be close enough
to Jesus to get all the benefits, but not so close that it requires sacrifice. The truth is
Jesus wants more than the church attendance, occasional prayer, and the ability to recite
Scripture—the fan response. He’s looking for people who are actually willing to give up
things in order to follow Him.
As we continue this study; humor, personal stories, a movie, biblical truth and discussion
will provide each the opportunity to grow closer to Jesus and decide if they want to follow
the radical call Jesus presents. It’s a huge step for our youth, yet compelling as we grow
and see changes made.
In the midst of this teaching, we are also gearing up for Vacation Bible School. This year
the youth (ages 5-12) will have a week to SHINE for God. “Those who look to HIM are
radiant…”, Psalm 34:5. We will be learning to be glory givers not glory getters.
Through music, video, crafts, and other exciting elements, the youth will be hearing the
gospel of Jesus Christ. They will be actively using their Bibles and engage in daily
biblical themes to give each child the chance to know what it means to give God glory.
We invite you, your family and friends to join us for the Carnival, following VBS this year,
as we see our youth and community transformed. The carnival will be a fun time to
celebrate the Glory of God together in a colorful atmosphere full of music, games,
activities and food. Each year this time of fellowship is memorable and special for the
youth.
Please be praying for the youth and their leaders as we continue to dive deeper into
following Jesus in Sunday School, Sunday and Wednesday Evening, VBS, the Carnival
and other youth related activities.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions. If you are interested in helping with the
youth on Sunday nights, and/or would like to help with upcoming events, contact me at

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of
God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your
minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is
honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever
is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise,
let your mind dwell on these things.—Philippians 4:6-8

Cont. CHANGE
2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed
away; behold, the new has come."
In the last six months Berea has undergone a lot
of change. We hired a full time
Administrative Assistant/Director of Children and
Youth, upgraded our website, started a monthly
dinner and Bible study. In addition, a couple of
classrooms have been transformed and a lot of
walls have been given a fresh coat of paint. The
sign out front has been kept up-to date with
information and encouraging thoughts. A new
projector and sound system were installed in the
fellowship hall. There are many more changes I
should probably mention but I need to
finish this article this morning.
So why am I talking about change? Because
Berea is about to undergo another major
change. On April 1, Woody announced to the
deacons that he would be retiring as a
bi-vocational pastor. His last day as Berea’s
pastor will be June 1. Woody made his
decision after a lot of prayer and decided it was
best not only for Berea but also for him-
self. Oh how we hate change. Woody has
served Berea faithfully for a long, long
time….not just the past five years as
pastor. His life will change as well. I’m sure he
will miss preaching on Sunday mornings at Be-
rea. We will likewise miss seeing him
every week.
Berea, we need to embrace change and
respond to God’s future plans. As His
children, we know things don’t happen by
chance. God is a change maker. I strongly be-
lieve God is at work here at Berea. Join me in
praying for God's leading as we embrace even
more changes that may come.

Fathers Light the Way
Fathers like you
Always shine a light
To guide their children
And help them do right.
Fathers like you
Gently lead the way
As they share their faith
With their children each day.
Fathers like you
Are honored and cherished, too,
For reflecting God’s love
In everything they do!
