What Is OpenPlant PowerPID


OpenPlant PowerPID

• OpenPlant PowerPID is the first commercial P&ID solution to be based on a completely open data model. −OpenPlant PowerPID is based on a neutral international data

standard ISO 15926.

−Any application that is mapped to the ISO 15926 schema can natively interoperate with OpenPlant PowerPID.

−Any data created in OpenPlant PowerPID is available to be shared without the need for complex APIs.

−Bentley’s OpenPlant products enable true collaboration – the data belongs to the user and not the vendor!


OpenPlant PowerPID also can import and export OWL files providing interoperability with any applications that have mapped their application schema to the ISO 15926 standard using iRING tools.

• OpenPlant PowerPID leverages the latest innovations in Bentley’s MicroStation to increase productivity. – OpenPlant PowerPID allows users to create deliverables in both

DWG and DGN formats with persistent intelligence.

• Not a “save as” feature, a truly intelligent P&ID regardless of format

– OpenPlant PowerPID can publish a Bentley i-model

• i-model is self describing, immutable format for design review and mark-up

• Design History allows users to create revision points during the creation of their P&IDs and then view changes between revisions and roll back to a previous revision if required.

Bentley Project Database Tool Suite


● Dynamic Data Input and Management – Data entered in the project database can

be viewed, edited and compiled into reports. Because Bentley Instrumentation &

Wiring applications share the same common database all additions, deletions and

modifications made in Data Manager are reflected in the other applications.

● Diverse Functions – Powerful filter, query, sort

and replace functions reduce time-intensive tasks

of searching for and modifying specific data.

● DataManager V8i provides an automated link to the

DataSheets V8i and HookUps V8i applications

Bentley Data Manager V8i is a powerful content management tool designed to

automate the time-intensive task of managing plant data, creating reports and

customizing project structures.

● Detailed revision control for tracking changes provides an easy method of ensuring that documents always stay

current. Includes the ability to batch print datasheets for quick, accurate hard copy distribution.

● Electronic data transfer to offsite locations. Users can send data electronically to off-site design offices or

equipment vendors.

● Data can be modified offsite with Microsoft Excel and returned electronically to the central office. Changes

are easily re-synchronized with the project database.

● A library of industry-standard templates including orifice

plates and flanges, magnetic flow meters thermocouples,

thermowell’s and pressure instruments, equipment

datasheet templates are provided for heat exchangers,

boilers, pumps and tanks.

● Templates can be easily modified to company standards.

Existing datasheet templates in Excel format, can be

reused by mapping the cell name to the appropriate

database field.

Bentley Datasheets V8i is an add-on module enabling the user to produce and manage

both equipment and instrumentation datasheets.

● Fast, Accurate Data Entry – A user friendly interface with menu-driven context

sensitive help features. Easily configurable views display all instrument and electrical

related data generated in OpenPlant PowerPID and other modules.

● Intuitive Connection Interface – An intuitive drag-and-drop

feature within the Layout Designer function lets the user

quickly define instruments, motor loops and panels with

their terminal strips and connections.

● After creation, layouts they can be saved as templates for quick generation of similar

loops.

● Industry Standard Templates – An extensive library of industry-standard templates for

DCS and PC controllers is provided.

Configuration with the Class Editor


Class Editor Configuration

• The Bentley Class Editor is used to make customizations to the schemas used for both OpenPlant PowerPID and OpenPlant Modeler.



• So how would I make a property on an existing class read only or hidden?

• For this example, I’m going to change the Dry Weight property to be hidden



• Steps – Open the Class Editor

– Open the OpenPlant_PID.01.04.ecschema

– Expand Classes

– Navigate to the Instrument Class

– Select the Properties tab

– Select the Dry Weight Property

– Select Custom Attributes > Add/Remove

– Select DISPLAY_OPTIONS custom attribute

– In the Display Options field then set Hidden to True to hide the Attribute.
