With the Housing Estate undergoing substantial redevelopment as part of a newly orchestrated public/private venture in government supplied low-income housing, this project aimed to be a pilot for the creation of community spaces at public housing facilities. As part of this project, students were required to develop a real live house that was to be built on the site and an ideal live house outside of the constraints of the Carlton site.

2. Project description
Our job as students was to come up with proposals for a community space, working through concepts to a viable solution for the Carlton Housing Estate. This required us to involve ourselves in the community life of the estate and build relationships with stakeholders such as residents, council representatives and community workers. From these consultations we were able to conclude what requirements the Live House would need to meet and which principles would need to be prioritized. Dealing with issues of cultural diversity, interpretation,

UPPER POOL STUDIO LEARNING OBJECTIVES STATEMENT
This studio has broadened my knowledge of portable architecture and retro-
motivated to research manufacturing techniques associated with the live house element with which I have been involved. I have also developed my design process and communication skills, particularly through storyboard techniques and research relationship mapping. I have developed my conceptual ad creative processes, placing more emphasis on amplifying particular ideas and principles behind the project. Working on a real-life project subjected me to questioning what is feasible and what is not, what is important and what is less
for me. With the large and diverse user group that this project encompasses,
elements in the design were responsible and culturally sensitive was continually brought to my attention via group discussion and stakeholder feedback. Through working with other classmates on the development of the utility trolleys and the signage elements I was able to improve my group work methods. Another important aspect of this studio was the interaction with estate residents and their stakeholders and through these in class and out of class interactions I was able to better improve my oral communication skills and also question how

Let’s use the Live House today?Indeed.
They start to use the space and find it quite delightful
butthey think it could be better setup than it is configured presently.
So they contact the Manager,& he aggree’s to show them
how to re-configure the space.
They get the spare panels from thir storage areaand start swaping the panels,
under the managers approval and assistance.
With the cube recofigured, the group feeling that
the cube is partly their own creationCommence to use the space routinely.
They contact the Manager of the Live House
& he/she opens facility for them.
The Manager opens one of the cubes to suit their needs.
The Manager also gets them a storage trolleyfrom the trolley storage cube,
so they can store their equipment and goods.

But the space is to too small and not quite right for the new users.
So, Under the supervising of the ManagerThey begin to renovate the Live House
by adding more cubes & a variety of different panels.
They tell their neighbors and friends about the Live House &
soon many people want to use the space.
Now the space is so excellent that performance, social groups, class’s & activities
are being run out of the Live House.
Volunteers are assigned tasks necessary to maintain the space & with Manager and Users ensuring that the cubes are collapsed to their weatherproof state
in-between use.
Friendships & memories are made from opportunities brought by the space’s existence
and the happy storey rolls eternally on.
